đĽłNEWS IN - Grown women celebrate being able to bathe and feed themselves!
*For anyone concerned reading this, other forms of washing did take place within those 2 weeks
These are the messages between myself and a wonderful friend of mine (permission granted to share) after I'd had surgery and she'd had a wisdom tooth taken out.
But it got me thinkingâŚ
We allow ourselves to lower demands when itâs medical.
We rest.
We reduce expectations.
We celebrate the smallest steps.
We even feel comfortable enough to laugh at ourselves.
But do we offer the same kindness for other reasons?
What about grief?
What about heartbreak?
What about burnout?
What about sensory overwhelm?
What about low social battery?
What about executive dysfunction days where brushing your teeth and cooking a meal is simply too much?
What about anxiety spikes, overstimulation, or the kind of fatigue that comes from being neurodivergent in a world that never stops?
Sometimes we all need lowered expectations, tiny win celebrations and âtoday I did one thing and thatâs enough.â
Maybe the real baseline isnât measuring how much we can push throughâŚ
but by measuring how kindly we can treat ourselves while weâre doing it.
Instead of judging ourselves by productivity or endurance, maybe we judge ourselves by selfâkindness.
At Hazelwood, we celebrate tiny wins.
We honour lowered demands.
We meet you where you are, not where you âshouldâ be.
