🔥🥵 With extreme heat forecast from this weekend, below are some ideas for keeping your pets cool 🐾 🥶

🧦The Frozen Sock Ice Pack
Fill a clean sock with uncooked rice, tie the end, and freeze it for 2 hours. Alternatively, place a frozen plastic water bottle inside a thick sock. It creates a safe, chilled pillow which pets can snuggle up to without getting freezer burn on their skin. It is great for rabbits and cats!

🧊 2. Frozen "Pupsicles" & "Catsicles"
Freeze low-salt chicken or beef broth in ice cube trays with a few pet treats dropped inside.
For cats, freeze the liquid from a tin of tuna in spring water 💦 🐟Licking helps lower their core temperature while keeping them hydrated and mentally stimulated without physical exertion.
🛏️ Cool Bed
Dampen a large bath towel with cold water (wring it out so it is not dripping) and lay it flat on a tiled or laminate floor to create an instant cooling station for pets to lie on. Never leave wet towels draped directly over a dog, as it can trap heat.
🥕 Frozen Veggie Crunch for Small Pets
Pop a few pieces of vegetables such as broccoli, celery, or a tiny slice of apple—into the freezer for an hour.
Rabbits and guinea pigs love the crunch, and the frozen moisture hydrates them instantly while cooling their mouth and digestive tract.
👂Damp Ear Mist (Cats & Rabbits)
Gently wipe the outside of your cat’s or rabbit's ears with a damp, cool cloth, or mist the air around them with a spray bottle on a fine setting. Both species regulate their body temperature through their ears. Evaporative cooling here helps them reduce heat quickly.

⚠️ PLEASE BE AWARE

Please help raise awareness by sharing this information with fellow dog owners.

Recent reports have highlighted an increase in sightings of Oak Processionary Caterpillars in parts of the UK.

These caterpillars carry thousands of tiny toxic hairs that can cause serious reactions in both people and animals. Even contact with a nest, shed hairs, or contaminated surfaces may trigger symptoms.

Signs of exposure in dogs may include:
Excessive drooling
Swelling of the tongue, lips or face
Vomiting
Difficulty swallowing
Breathing difficulties
Pawing at the mouth

The caterpillars are most commonly found on oak trees, often travelling in distinctive nose-to-tail processions or gathered in silken nests on trunks and branches.

If you are walking in woodland, parks or areas with oak trees:

Keep dogs away from caterpillars and their nests.
Avoid touching nests or affected trees.
Keep dogs on paths where possible.
Contact your vet immediately if exposure is suspected
