RICE is retired. Here’s what replaced it.

If you rolled an ankle or pulled a hamstring this weekend, the advice you were probably given is about fifteen years out of date.

The current framework is PEACE & LOVE — published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine and now standard across sports medicine.

PEACE covers the first 1–3 days: Protection, Elevation, Avoid anti-inflammatories, Compression, Education.

LOVE covers everything after: Load, Optimism, Vascularisation, Exercise.

The big shift? Rest used to be the treatment. Now it’s a short holding pattern before the actual treatment, which is loading the tissue. Prolonged rest weakens the very thing you’re trying to heal.

Save this for the next time someone on your team goes down.

Qualsafe Level 2 Award in Activity First Aid.

If you coach, instruct or run a club, you’re the first person there when something goes wrong. Not the ambulance. You.

This is the qualification built for that. Two days, regulated, nationally recognised — and written specifically for people delivering activities rather than sitting in an office.

You’ll cover managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, choking, head and spinal injuries, abdominal injuries, external bleeding and anaphylaxis. The things that actually happen on a pitch, a boat or a slope.

Taught by clinicians who work pitchside every week. Real scenarios, real kit, in our Westgate-on-Sea training centre.

Certificate is valid for three years.

Three things, one team.

Response — pitchside and sports medical cover, delivered by registered clinicians. We’re there when it happens.

Performance — rehab-based strength work that rebuilds you properly, not just back to pain-free.

Recovery — injury consultations, sports massage and structured rehab.

We built this around a gap that catches a lot of people: the space between treatment ending and being genuinely ready to compete.

Discharged isn’t recovered, and that ground is where re-injuries happen.
