The support of other women

Written with love, as a woman to all other women.

There’s been a lot going on lately on the socials..

About women’s appearances- again.

The sports women images and the reactions about an actress and model portrayed as women in sport. - The outcry that this makes unrealistic comparisons.

My questions is, if this has upset you, think about why? A beautiful actress is paid to model with sports equipment, she is beautiful, she looks fit and she is getting paid….

Well done to her! We all know that is not what an athlete looks like!

I can say this because I know that it’s just media, created to stir up attention - it serves the patriarchy to have women angry about other women.

Her body doesn’t invalidate yours, her youth doesn’t undermine your age, ability and beauty.

Your reaction does.

By resharing and being insulted, by creating reels that include the images you are so offended by, you keep it relevant.

So, why not stop? Appreciate actual sports women by following them, liking and sharing their content. And simply not reacting to this?

If the news doesn’t travel, the platform becomes unstable and stops being a platform at all..

The best way to love and support other women is simply to do that.

Be a role model in women’s wellbeing and sports by demonstrating appreciation, holding the knowledge that you don’t need to model what you do, because you actually do it incredibly well. The shape and size of your body is what makes you unique.

My yoga week
Spend the week in practice with me.

Everyday I try to spend 30 minutes in self practice and 15 minutes in meditation - setting intentions and reflecting on anything that comes up through the days.

I work, teach, am a mum of 2 and run my household! Yoga is central for me in all of the things I do.

Mondays class sees us start gently into the week with a flow class that allows for softness and encourages self awareness.
Using props to allow you to gently ease into poses and prepare you for your weeks tasks and practice..

Tuesday is a personal day, no work, just self care, practice and homework.

Moving to a yin class on Wednesday evening. Focussing inward for that mid week awareness of self and reflection, offering your body poses for improving flexibility and mobility, embracing stillness and quiet, to help maintain your balance and intentions.

Thursdays hatha flow offers a practice to improve strength with stability and mindfulness , if you felt the energy of the week building, this will get your muscles aligned with your mind, creating a mindset of strength and focus.

Move to Friday mornings chair class, a lovingly crafted balance of mindful practices and targeted movement to help boost and improve regular daily physical needs, combined with meditation that guides you to focus on loving kindness towards self and others. Embracing your self as you are and learning acceptance of self through meditation. Invite calm focus on values for the weekend ahead.

Saturdays, are reserved for practice on anything I’m learning, reading, and Offering free sessions where I can practice my skills, currently I’m studying Nidra, so small groups or 1:1 offerings are coming soon, all whilst balancing family needs and deeper personal practice.

Finally on Sunday, it’s personal practice, family time and prep for the new week of yoga to offer.

My personal practice could be a walk with Pip, meditation, attending a class for me, or any of the things I teach!

Yoga isn’t just a fitness of the body practice, it’s a lifestyle, a set of moral values and a way of being!

I like this post a lot about enablers. Having people you trust reduce you experience or, undermine the abuse because they don’t want to take sides is painful and causes to you suffer more internal gaslighting, and confidence shattering.

It reminds us that the people a victim or survivor trusts, is significant and it should be treated as a privilege if they share their experience with you.

Lately there has been lots in the media about domestic abuse.

For me it is simple. A person doesn’t have to prove what they tell you. If they tell you they were abused in any capacity - you believe them, 100%, unless there is significant evidence it did not happen or the experience was significantly different than their perception.

Even then, they experienced it that way and deserve care and support.

If you chose not to “take sides” or “stay out of the drama” or remain in contact with that abuser in any way, you have chosen your side.

Life is too short to sit on the fence where it involves abuse. Especially with the rise of DA, and violence towards women and children, coercion and control, emotional and financial abuse.

Having experienced abuse myself in my lifetime - emotional, financial, and the rest of- the things I don’t ever speak of because I am safe.

I will always support you, believe you and be your safe space. I will not fact check, stay neutral or reduce your experience - I know what that feels like.

As a mental health professional and wellbeing practitioner, I believe I have a duty to be a safe place and that will always be a significant part of my life.

You are safe with me, always.
