šŸ’” One of those lightbulb moments in clinic this week…

We were working on improving postnatal abdominal wall function and reducing strain through the midline following diastasis. My client had been doing a fantastic job with her exercises, connecting with her breath and managing pressure well.

Then came the penny-drop moment…

ā€œIt’s not just about the exercises, is it?ā€

Exactly.

Because while we can spend 10 minutes a day practising good pressure management, the real challenge is what happens during the other 23 hours and 50 minutes.

In this case, the biggest ā€œloadā€ wasn’t a dumbbell or kettlebell…

It was her baby. ā¤ļø

(Although we may have cheekily referred to said baby as ā€œthe loadā€ during our session 🤣)

Every time we lift, carry, push, pull, get up from the floor, pick up a car seat, or wrestle a toddler into clothing, we’re creating load through our body. Learning how to manage intra-abdominal pressure and connect with the abdominal wall during these everyday tasks can be just as important as the exercises themselves.

The goal isn’t perfection or constantly bracing.

It’s awareness, strategy, and helping the body cope with the demands of real life.

Because rehabilitation doesn’t happen in isolation—it needs to transfer into the activities that matter most.

And for many mums, that’s repeatedly picking up the world’s cutest little ā€œloadā€. šŸ‘¶šŸ’Ŗ

✨ Exercises are where we learn the skill. Everyday life is where we apply it.

Stayed somewhere this weekend with this sign… and I couldn’t stop thinking about how much it sounded like the human body.

ā€œPlease be kind — I am old.ā€
ā€œI have my original bones.ā€
ā€œYou may notice uneven floors, creaky floorboards and wonky door framesā€¦ā€
ā€œWe are constantly working to restore and maintain me.ā€

Swap house for human and it suddenly feels very familiar.

Bodies change.
They adapt.
They carry history.
Pregnancy, birth, ageing, injury, stress, menopause, surgeries, sport, life.

Sometimes things creak a little more than they used to.
Sometimes parts need more support, maintenance, patience or rehabilitation.

That doesn’t mean the body is failing.
It means it’s lived.

I think many of us could benefit from speaking to ourselves with the same compassion we offer beautiful old buildings: with care, respect, patience and appreciation for everything they continue to do.

Calling on the collective parent brain šŸ« šŸ˜‚

I feel like I’m in such a rut with breakfast ideas for my two boys at the minute… either they’re bored, I’m uninspired, or we’re all just surviving the morning chaos šŸ˜…

Would LOVE some healthy-ish breakfast ideas your kids actually eat šŸ‘‡šŸ¼

Quick wins, high protein, make-ahead, hidden veg, freezer stuff… I’ll take anything at this point šŸ˜‚
