š” One of those lightbulb moments in clinic this weekā¦
We were working on improving postnatal abdominal wall function and reducing strain through the midline following diastasis. My client had been doing a fantastic job with her exercises, connecting with her breath and managing pressure well.
Then came the penny-drop momentā¦
āItās not just about the exercises, is it?ā
Exactly.
Because while we can spend 10 minutes a day practising good pressure management, the real challenge is what happens during the other 23 hours and 50 minutes.
In this case, the biggest āloadā wasnāt a dumbbell or kettlebellā¦
It was her baby. ā¤ļø
(Although we may have cheekily referred to said baby as āthe loadā during our session š¤£)
Every time we lift, carry, push, pull, get up from the floor, pick up a car seat, or wrestle a toddler into clothing, weāre creating load through our body. Learning how to manage intra-abdominal pressure and connect with the abdominal wall during these everyday tasks can be just as important as the exercises themselves.
The goal isnāt perfection or constantly bracing.
Itās awareness, strategy, and helping the body cope with the demands of real life.
Because rehabilitation doesnāt happen in isolationāit needs to transfer into the activities that matter most.
And for many mums, thatās repeatedly picking up the worldās cutest little āloadā. š¶šŖ
⨠Exercises are where we learn the skill. Everyday life is where we apply it.
