Sharon Nicholson - Accredited Therapist & Brainspotting Practitioner

Sharon Nicholson - Accredited Therapist & Brainspotting Practitioner 🌱 Trauma therapy for the body, mind and nervous system. I understand what it’s like to carry the weight of invisible wounds, because I’ve been there myself.

I help people heal betrayal trauma in all its forms, not just affairs or infidelity, and the anxiety, overthinking, grief and exhaustion left in its wake.

💻 https://sharon-nicholson.com Hi, I’m Sharon, a trauma therapist with over 19 years of experience supporting high-functioning individuals who are ready to heal from relational trauma, narcissistic abuse, and profound loss. For a decade, I wor

ked as a BACP Accredited Senior Counsellor in the NHS (specialising in Counselling for Depression) before moving into full-time private practice, where I now offer specialist online therapy across the UK. My own lived experience deepens my empathy and fuels my passion for helping others reclaim their power, peace, and sense of self. I offer therapy with Brainspotting, and my trauma-informed approach is informed by neuroscience, Polyvagal Theory, and Internal Family Systems. This approach helps you release the emotional pain that words alone can’t reach, so you can move beyond anxiety, shame, and overwhelm, to find joy and ease in your life again. If you’re high-functioning and feel stuck in self-doubt, people-pleasing or perfectionism, I’m here to walk alongside you on your healing journey. Feel free to reach out for a free clarity call - let’s explore how therapy can help you come home to yourself.

🌱 If your body still braces for something that already happened - this is why.

Betrayal trauma isn't only about infidelity. It's a parent who chose someone else's comfort over your safety. A friend who spoke about you behind your back. A family who closed ranks around the person who hurt you. A partner whose patterns kept you quietly bracing, long before you had the words for it.

Whatever its shape, the injury is the same: someone you depended on for safety became the source of danger instead.

Your nervous system was doing its job - scanning, searching, trying to find the moment that would finally make sense of what happened, and somewhere along the way, that scanning became the new normal.

So now, a certain tone of voice, and your stomach drops. A silence that goes on a second too long, and you're back there.

You can be somewhere completely safe and still feel your chest tighten, your breath shorten, your whole body pull back - for reasons your mind can't always keep up with.

❤️ This isn't you being too sensitive, or failing to move on. It's a nervous system still trying to protect you from something that already happened.

Talking can help you understand it, but understanding alone doesn't always reach where it's actually held - in the body.

🌿This is where Brainspotting comes in.

Rather than working through language first, it follows where the body is still holding what the mind hasn't fully processed - helping release what talking alone often can't reach.

If this feels familiar, you don't have to keep carrying it on your own.

Warmly
Sharon

Sometimes someone can find a person charming, kind, funny and lovely - even after being told that this same person has mistreated someone else.

That doesn’t make the mistreatment any less real.

An abuser doesn’t stop being an abuser simply because they are nice to you. Unfortunately, the fact that someone is charming to one person can make it even harder for others to acknowledge what happened to someone else.

Both things can be true: they can be lovely to you, and they can still be someone’s abuser.

❤️ Choosing a therapist, especially for trauma work, can be a daunting and sometimes overwhelming decision, and it helps to know exactly who you'd be trusting with your story before you ever book a call.

I qualified as a Therapeutic Counsellor in 2006 (Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling) - I can't believe that was 20 years ago! - and some of my clinical experience includes counselling in Women's Refuge and 10 years as a Senior Counsellor in the NHS.

Here are some of my post-qualifying qualifications:

🌿 BACP Accredited Therapeutic Counsellor - continuously accredited since 2009

🌿 Counselling for Depression Practitioner and Supervisor (PCE-CfD) - Metanoia Institute London

🌿 Brainspotting Practitioner (Phases 1–4), trained directly with Dr David Grand, founder of Brainspotting, and Dr Mark Grixti, Head of Brainspotting UK

🌿 Certified Narcissistic Abuse Specialist™

🌿 ICF Certified Somatic Trauma-Informed Coach

🌿 Complex Trauma Certification, Levels 1 & 2 - with Janina Fisher, PhD

🌿 Certified Bereavement Counsellor

As well as offering weekly or fortnightly 90-minute sessions, I specialise in therapy intensives - dedicated space for more focused therapeutic work - because not everyone wants to stretch out their sessions over weeks or months.

My work focuses on trauma, including betrayal trauma, narcissistic abuse, complex grief, and the anxiety, self-doubt, overthinking and dysregulation that invisibly follows deeply impacting life experiences.

❤️ Many of those I work with are heart-led, insightful, have already tried talking therapy, and still don't feel the peace needed to live life on their terms.

🌿 That's the gap my work aims to close: body-based, nervous-system work that reaches what conversation alone often can't.

20 years, an intentionally small caseload, and training with people who lead this field - that's what I bring to every session, and I'm always happy to talk more about it - it's my passion!

🌱 If you're looking for a quiet place to begin, I offer downloadable resources on my website - link in Bio.
