I was looking back through the feedback from our women’s wellbeing course this morning and found myself getting super emotional.

Not because of the scores.

(Not that they weren’t brilliant.)

But because of the comments.

One woman told us:

“For the first time in a long while, I feel like I am starting to see the light again.”

Another said:
“I feel more content with myself.”

Another simply said:
“I feel lighter.”

Over the six weeks we talked about self-compassion, emotions, boundaries, making time for yourself and all sorts of other wellbeing stuff.

But when we asked what had helped most, the answers weren’t what you’d expect.

People talked about feeling accepted.

Having a safe space.

Knowing they weren’t alone.

Sharing experiences with women who understood.

It reminded me of something I think we often forget...

Most people don’t need more information.

They need somewhere they can stop pretending they’re fine for five minutes.

A huge thank you to Amy for choosing to do this together, and every woman who trusted us enough to spend six weeks together.

It was genuinely a privilege to be part of.

We miss our Friday’s…and puppy cuddles

Tonight, as England play, I need to talk about something that doesn’t get said loudly enough 💔

Research shows that domestic abuse reports rise by 26% when England win or draw and by 38% when England lose. Every single time they play. Other research found a 47% rise in alcohol-related domestic abuse on England victory days. Greater Manchester Police recorded a 30% rise in reports on England game days during the Euros. And data from 31 police forces showed a 13% surge in domestic abuse 999 calls on match days during Euro 2024. Win or lose. The risk rises đź’”

Football doesn’t cause abuse. But for people already living in abusive relationships, match days, with alcohol, heightened emotion and a volatile atmosphere, can make a dangerous situation even more dangerous.

So tonight, enjoy the football if you’re watching but also check in on people you’re worried about. Know the signs. And know that support is always available 🤍

Share this. It matters more than the score 🙏🏾

Looking after our health and wellbeing can feel overwhelming.

That’s why we’ve created a space where you can do something with your hands, have a chat over a brew, and take a couple of hours just for you.

Create 🎨
Create something that helps you slow down, switch off and relieve stress in the moment.

Chat đź’¬
Chat about simple ways to support yourself around each week’s theme, whilst sharing your experiences to help shape future support for women in Wigan.

Unwind ✨
Leave feeling calmer, more connected, and with practical ideas to help keep that sense of calm going at home.

Over the next four weeks we’ll be exploring:

🧶 22nd June - Punch Needling - Stress & Taking Time For Yourself

🪡29th June - Embroidery - Emotional Eating

🏺 13th July - Clay Creations - All-Or-Nothing Thinking & Healthy Habits

🎨 20th July - Press Printing - Confidence

Spaces are funded - book through Family Hub at The Meadows or by messaging Jen on 07738721227

We’re here to help make looking after your health and wellbeing feel doable.

On Saturday 27th June, we’re hiding books around Haigh.

You come for a walk, keep your eyes open, and if you find one - it’s yours.

Something simple to get you out of the house, moving and having a bit of fun.

You might come on your own, with your kids, or with someone else.

You might find a book, you might not.

But either way, you’ve had some fresh air, moved your body a bit, and done something that isn’t just another task on the list.

Sometimes that’s enough.

Some evenings you think about going for a walk…
and then you don’t.

You’re tired, the day’s been full and it feels easier to stay in your head (or on the couch).

This is just a reason to get out.

Just a short, simple walk with other women who probably nearly didn’t come too.

It’s not about steps or pace.

It’s about getting some air, moving your body a bit, and breaking that cycle of staying stuck in the same place all evening.

Sometimes that’s all you need.

A tiger themed Saturday morning with the family
