One of the things I get the most feedback about is the silence at the start of class. (The other is that my classes are 90 minutes long… new students often tell me they feel more like a mini workshop than a yoga class!)
In 2019 I attended my first silent meditation retreat. After spending a week in silence, I came home knowing I wanted to bring some of that experience into every class I taught. So I introduced silence before class began. I’ll admit, there was a little hesitation from a few students at first! 🙊
But over time, it’s become one of the things people value most.
No need for small talk. No discussing the weather. No listening to people offload their weekend plans, worries or frustrations before class. Instead, you can begin your practice the moment you arrive. After all, this time is for you 😉
Energy takes time to settle. The mind does too.
The silence allows you to arrive more fully before we even begin moving.
And as for the 90 minute classes? Most weeks, that still doesn’t feel long enough 🙈
