We're counting down to the Spelthorne Business Awards 2026, where Guardian Angel Carers Spelthorne is a finalist in not one but two categories:

🏆 Business Innovation Award
🏆 Businessperson of the Year — Louise Cobban

It's been a whirlwind few months getting here, and we couldn't have done it without our amazing carers, coordinators and the families who trust us with their loved ones every day. However the night goes, we're already proud to be flying the flag for Spelthorne home care. 💗

Wish us luck — we'll be sharing all the highlights from the night!

Over the last month, we have shared stories of tea trays properly set, favourite programmes never missed, and families finally finding the space to breathe again.

Good Care Month draws to a close today, but our commitment to what care should look like stays the same. We refuse to treat care as a transaction or a set of boxes to tick on a clipboard.

Here is to care that lets you be you again, today, tomorrow, and every month of the year.

Today is International Day of Friendship, recognised by the United Nations to celebrate the people who make ordinary days better simply by being in them.

Friendship shows up in different ways as life goes on. Sometimes it's a long phone call. Sometimes it's someone who just sits with you, no agenda, no rush.

We see this often in the relationships between our CareAngels and the people they support, with bonds that grow well beyond the visit itself.

We are always here if you need us.

Trust in care is not something that arrives all at once. It builds gradually, through consistency and small moments that quietly add up.

A CareAngel who remembers how you take your tea. A routine that runs exactly as it should, without anyone having to think about it. A morning that feels calm rather than managed. These are the foundation of care that genuinely works.

For every client we support, there is a point where things settle. Where the support stops feeling unfamiliar and starts feeling like part of life.

That does not happen because of any single gesture. It happens because the small things are done well, again and again.

That is what Good Care Month is about for us. The small things that matter, and the trust they build over time.

Today marks Samaritans Awareness Day, held on the 24th of July because their listening service is there 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

It's a day to talk about something simple but easy to forget, which is that just listening to someone can make a real difference.

This is something we think about often in our own work, like noticing when someone has gone quiet and sitting with them a little longer. Care isn't only about tasks; it's about paying attention.

If you or someone you know needs to talk, Samaritans are free to call, any time, on 116 123.

Dignity in care is not a policy or a training module. It is a feeling, and it tends to live in the smallest moments.

A CareAngel who is truly paying attention, not just present. A morning routine that actually starts the day well, not just gets it done. Support that is genuinely felt, not simply delivered.

Those distinctions might sound subtle, but to the person on the receiving end, they are everything.
Nobody should feel like a patient in their own home.

A person's preferences should never feel like an inconvenience, nor their routine like something that needs to bend around someone else's schedule.

Home should feel like home, and care should feel like care given by someone who actually sees you.

This month, we are reaffirming something we have always believed, real dignity comes from the small things. The ones that are easy to overlook and impossible to replace.

It might mean finally feeling confident enough to have a friend over for tea again. Getting back into the garden after a few weeks of not quite managing it alone. Sitting at the table for breakfast rather than staying in bed because getting up felt like too much.

These are not dramatic recoveries. They are quiet, personal victories that only the people involved truly understand the weight of.

When we talk about care that lets you be you again, this is what we mean. Not a version of you adapted to fit around a care schedule, but you, in your home, living your days the way you want to live them.

With temperatures rising this week, we wanted to share a few simple reminders for staying safe and comfortable in the heat, particularly for those who may be more vulnerable to the effects of warm weather.

✅️ Stay hydrated. It is easy to forget to drink enough water during the day, especially if you are not feeling thirsty. Little and often is a good approach.

✅️ Stay cool indoors. Keep curtains and blinds closed during the hottest part of the day, usually between 11am and 3pm, to help keep rooms comfortable.

✅️ Know the signs. Dizziness, headaches, and feeling unusually tired can all be early signs of heat exhaustion. If you or someone you care for is experiencing these, seek shade, cool water, and rest. If symptoms are severe, do not hesitate to call 111 or 999.

✅️ Check in on those around you. A quick call or visit to a neighbour or family member can make a real difference on hot days.

Our CareAngels are keeping a close eye on the clients they support throughout the warm weather. If you have any concerns about a loved one, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local team.
