Samhain - do you celebrate? The turning of the wheel of the year? What does this mean?

For me personally it’s a time of remembering, as we embrace the darkness, the evenings drawing in. Many describe this time of year as a thinning of the veil, for me the veil is always thin, that’s part of my life. But there is a certain depth to this time of year, a real magic to the moon, I feel my inner wisdom, witch, mystical self really rising and energised - particularly at night.

Halloween has taken over Samhain, the commercialism. More people will be familiar with Halloween over Samhain. The trick or treating, the dressing up, children being so full of sweets. Stories in childhood of the witch being the bad character.

Witches are amongst us, I am one, there are many. I remember this time of year for the witches who were killed, tortured or shamed. The witches who were silenced, forced to be part of Church and never speak of magic. The witches who lived in constant fear of their lives.

2026 and we are reclaiming that word. We are remembering and returning to who we are. We are not to be feared or banished. A witch to me is someone deeply connected to themselves, the Earth and each other. . A witch is that connector between this world and the next. We work with all the seasons, all the elements every day. Being a witch is life long journey. It is not something we must put a hat on for Halloween and it’s over.

Witch has negative connotations, many tune into the dark arts, saying it is devil worship and voodoo dolls, spells for shadows etc. My interpretation is everything has dark and light, we all carry elements of this within. The yin and the yang.

I work in the light, for the light but I continue to work on my shadows. Life is one beautiful rich tapestry of remembrance.

So take a moment today or over the next few days. Remember your ancestors, remember loved ones who are in spirit, remember their smell, their laughter, their cooking, their smile. Remember you are them.

Samhain - reclaim and remember. We are all deeply wise, we just need to return to ourselves ❤️♾️

If you’d like to gather in person, please join me at Chapel Woods 5pm 9th November.
