What a day for emergency services football. ⚽

Saturday’s Emergency Services Football League National 5-a-Side Competition brought teams together from across the emergency services for a brilliant day of competitive football.

Congratulations to HMP Birmingham and West Midlands Police Women, who came out on top after two incredibly close, hard-fought finals against Leicestershire and Hampshire.

ESFL Co-Founder Pete Overton summed up the day:

“Saturday’s ESFL National 5-a-Side Competition was a fantastic showcase of the talent and competitive spirit across our emergency services.”

A huge well done to everyone who took part, and to the team behind the ESFL for putting on another fantastic competition.

As a proud sponsor of the Emergency Services Football League, Bluline Health Ltd is delighted to support the league and the emergency services community it brings together throughout the year.

Today, on Emergency Services Day, we’re recognising the people who dedicate themselves to keeping others safe.

Across policing and the wider emergency services, the job can mean long shifts, difficult decisions, demanding situations and pressures that don’t always end when the working day does.

Behind every uniform is a person, and often a family too.

At Bluline Health Ltd, we’re proud to support the policing community and to recognise the commitment of emergency service workers across the UK.

To everyone serving across our emergency services, thank you for everything you do. 💙

Air pollution probably isn’t top of your health checklist.

But perhaps it should be. For those working in policing, long hours outdoors, busy roads, traffic incidents, city centres and other higher-exposure environments can all add up over time.

And it isn’t only your lungs that can be affected.

Poor air quality has been linked to:

- High blood pressure
- Reduced lung function
- Heart disease and stroke
- Respiratory illness
- Greater strain during physical activity

The effects aren’t always obvious either. Some health changes can develop quietly, which is why regular checks such as blood pressure, cholesterol and respiratory assessments can be so useful.

To mark International Day of Clean Air for blue skies, our latest blog looks at why air quality matters, why those working in the emergency services may face greater exposure and how preventative healthcare can help.

Being not-for-profit is an important part of who we are.

Bluline Health Ltd exists to support serving police officers, police staff and their families, not to generate returns for shareholders.

It means our focus stays where it should be: on providing accessible private healthcare and supporting the health and wellbeing of the Police Family.

From consultant appointments and diagnostic tests to eligible treatment and mental health support, our healthcare scheme has been designed around the people it serves.

When you become a Bluline Health member, you’re joining a healthcare scheme that puts its members first.

September is Su***de Prevention Month. 💙

Su***de prevention starts long before someone reaches crisis point.

Checking in, listening without judgement and reaching out when things are starting to feel overwhelming can all make a difference.

Bluline Health Ltd members aged 18 and over can access Thrive Mental Wellbeing and Mental Health Navigator for confidential mental health support and guidance.

If you or someone you know needs someone to talk to, Samaritans are available 24/7 on 116 123.

Support can start with one conversation, and you don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out.

Some symptoms can be easy to dismiss or put off getting checked.

But needing to urinate more often, difficulty urinating, blood in your urine, recurring urinary infections or persistent pain can all be signs that something needs investigating.

September is Urology Awareness Month, raising awareness of conditions affecting the urinary system and male reproductive health, including the bladder, kidneys and prostate.

If you notice a change or something doesn’t feel right, it’s important to seek medical advice rather than simply putting up with it.

Bluline Health Ltd members can access private consultant appointments, diagnostic tests and eligible treatment, subject to the terms of their cover.

Getting symptoms checked can help identify problems sooner and make sure you receive the right advice and support.

Endometriosis can have a significant impact on everyday life, including at work.

Pelvic pain, heavy or painful periods, fatigue, pain during or after s*x and bowel or bladder symptoms can all be associated with endometriosis.

For women working in policing, managing ongoing symptoms alongside shifts and the physical and emotional demands of the job can be particularly difficult.

If you’re experiencing symptoms that are affecting your everyday life, you don’t simply have to put up with them.

Bluline Health Ltd members can access private consultant appointments, diagnostic tests and eligible treatment, including surgery where clinically appropriate and covered by the healthcare scheme, subject to scheme rules.

Getting the right assessment can help you understand what may be causing your symptoms and what treatment options are available.

Because looking after the health of the Police Family means talking about women’s health too.
