As Aromatherapists why do we use different carrier oils with our treatments for our clients?
Carrier oils offer a multitude of benefits for the skin, acting as moisturisers, carrying essential oils, and supporting specific skin concerns.
Moisturising and Nourishing:
Many carrier oils are rich in fatty acids and vitamins, providing deep hydration and nourishment to the skin. Coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and avocado oil are known for their moisturising properties.
Balancing Oily Skin:
Jojoba oil, with its similarity to the skin's natural sebum, can help regulate oil production, making it beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin.
Soothing Sensitive Skin:
Rosehip and apricot kernel are known for their soothing and calming effects, helping to reduce irritation and inflammation.
Anti-Aging and Scar Reduction:
Rosehip seed oil is also lauded for its ability to promote skin regeneration and reduce the appearance of scars and fine lines.
Carrying Essential Oils:
Carrier oils dilute essential oils, making them safe for topical application and also slow down their evaporation, allowing for better absorption.
Choosing the right carrier oil depends on your skin type and specific needs:
Dry Skin:
Avocado, olive, or coconut oil are excellent choices due to their rich, moisturising properties.
Oily/Acne-Prone Skin:
Jojoba, grapeseed, or h**p seed oil are lighter options that can help balance oil production without clogging pores.
Sensitive Skin:
Apricot kernel or rosehip seed oil are gentle and soothing options for sensitive skin.
Mature Skin:
Argan oil, rosehip seed oil, and avocado oil are rich in antioxidants and nutrients that can help improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
