Last month, one of our attendees decided to give their brain a workout by completing a jigsaw. They were really proud of themselves to have completed it independently and wouldn’t let anyone help them.

Jigsaw puzzles provide a full-brain workout that sharpens memory, boosts problem-solving skills, and stimulates blood flow to delay cognitive decline. They act as an offline, meditative tool to lower heart rate and relieve stress through the release of the "feel-good" hormone dopamine.

Handling and placing small, irregular pieces improves hand-eye coordination and fine motor control.

June’s Arts and Crafts topic was “Summer Fun”. All the people who attend Creative Hub Burnholme contributed towards this colourful display, which the children who use the library have been enjoying looking at.

There is a giant ferris wheel, a big top, a strong person, jugglers, and tight rope walker - not to mention all the food carts.

While developing the display we talked about all the things that could be at a circus fairground and what treats you might be able to purchase there. Look out for July’s beach pier themed display!

Star of this week is Edward, or “Ted” as he prefers to be called.

Ted makes the long journey across the border from Easingwold to join us each week. He loves to get involved and is always happy to help out with everything, and always has a cheeky smile on his face.

Ted is also helping us to learn some more sign language - every day is a school day!

Without Support Workers like Dominika, we cannot provide the high level of support our attendees deserve. She is a valued member of our team and we all look forward to continuing to work with her.

Given the chance, Dora would ride a unicorn to get everywhere in life!

She loves to giggle and enjoys every task she does, and her favourite jobs at Café West are baking in the kitchen and serving customers on the till.
