Imagine that 100 people around the world die from hepatitis B this year. About 69 of them will come from just 10 countries, including Ghana. This is not because hepatitis B cannot be prevented or treated. It is because too many people are never tested, are diagnosed too late, or are unable to access treatment in time.

In July 2023, after reviewing data showing that a significant minority of pregnant women were first diagnosed with hepatitis B during their second and third trimester, we partnered with Pabi Health Centre to encourage early antenatal attendance and the early identification of infants at risk so they could receive timely preventive interventions.

The Pabi Health Centre team delivered the message with remarkable creativity and passion. It remains one of our most impactful collaborations with a sister health facility.

Insulin resistance can develop years before prediabetes and is commonly associated with excess abdominal fat. A normal blood sugar reading after consuming sugar does not always mean metabolic health is normal.

Regular physical activity, even a 10-minute walk after meals, can help improve glucose control and reduce long-term risk. Limiting excess sugar intake is also beneficial.
