🏥 10 Years of Healing, Exceptional Care, Excellent Patient Experience, Hope & Service
Shai-Osudoku District Hospital, Dodowa.

On the 15th of June, 2016, history was made in the Shai-Osudoku District.

The doors of our new Shai-Osudoku District Hospital swung open, and with quiet but profound significance, our first patient walked in marking the beginning of a new chapter in healthcare delivery for our community.

That momentous transition was led by the visionary Kenn Brightson Dr. Kennedy Brightson, whose dedication and leadership made the dream of a modern, functional district hospital a reality. Under his watch, we did not just move into a new building, we stepped into a new era of service, dignity, and excellence in patient care.

10 years on, that spirit lives on in every ward, every consultation, every delivery, and every life touched within these walls.

To our frontline staff, past and present who have given their best, day and night: thank you.
To our community, your trust and confidence keep us going.

To Dr. Kennedy Brightson, your legacy is written in lives saved.

As we mark this milestone, we recommit ourselves to the mission: quality healthcare, closer to the people.

Happy 10th Anniversary, SODH, Dodowa!

Caring for our community, one patient at a time.

❤️‍🩹 WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY | Shai Osudoku District Hospital

Theme: “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer”

Shai Osudoku District Hospital (SODH) joined the global observance of World Hypertension Day in a truly memorable and engaging way, bringing health education to life through the power of drama!

Our talented Drama Group took centre stage, delivering a captivating performance that highlighted key preventive measures and lifestyle modifications to help individuals and families take charge of their blood pressure and overall cardiovascular health.

From reducing salt intake and staying physically active, to managing stress and avoiding harmful substances, the messages were communicated in a way that was relatable, impactful, and deeply rooted in our community’s everyday experience.

Hypertension, the “silent killer,” continues to be a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure across the globe and right here in our communities. Yet with the right knowledge and lifestyle choices, it is largely preventable and controllable.

A warm commendation to our Drama Group and the entire Health Promotion team at SODH for turning awareness into action and making health education both informative and entertaining! 👏🏾

Know your numbers. Live your best life.

🟡 WORLD NEONATAL JAUNDICE AWARENESS DAY | Shai Osudoku District Hospital

Theme: “A National Call to Action: Improving Jaundice Care for Every Newborn, Everywhere”

At Shai Osudoku District Hospital (SODH), we joined the global community in commemorating World Neonatal Jaundice Awareness Day — reaffirming our commitment to ensuring that every newborn receives timely, quality jaundice care.

👶 Before the main commemoration, our dedicated NICU staff and ANC teams took time to engage pregnant mothers at the Antenatal Care (ANC) clinic and the Maternity Ward — equipping them with vital knowledge on neonatal jaundice, its early signs, and the importance of prompt medical attention after delivery.

The commemoration was held right here at Shai Osudoku District Hospital, featuring impactful health education sessions and an exciting prize-sharing activity to reward participation and reinforce learning. It was a day of awareness, empowerment, and community engagement!

Neonatal jaundice, if detected and treated early, is entirely manageable but delayed care can lead to serious, lifelong complications. This is our call to action: know the signs, seek care early, and give every newborn the best start in life.

Heartfelt commendations to the Paediatric and Midwifery teams at SODH for championing newborn health with passion and dedication. 💛

Together, we can make jaundice care accessible to every newborn, everywhere.

WORLD PRE-ECLAMPSIA DAY
Shai Osudoku District Hospital

In recognition of World Pre-Eclampsia Day, the dedicated team at Shai Osudoku District Hospital (SODH) stepped beyond the hospital walls to bring awareness, education, and care closer to the community.

Before the main event, our maternity and ANC teams engaged pregnant mothers at the Antenatal Care (ANC) clinic and the Maternity Ward offering health education on the warning signs of pre-eclampsia, the importance of regular monitoring, and the critical role of early detection in saving lives.

The commemoration reached its high point at the Asutuare, a suburb within the Shai Osudoku District with Health Education and Screening Programme, where community members, especially expectant mothers, were screened and sensitised on pre-eclampsia and its associated risks.

Pre-eclampsia remains one of the leading causes of maternal and newborn deaths worldwide. Events like this remind us that early detection saves lives and that every mother deserves safe, informed care.

A big commendation to the entire Obstetrics & Gynaecology/Midwifery team at SODH for their commitment to maternal health today and every day.

CHILD HEALTH PROMOTION WEEK
SHAI OSUDOKU DISTRICT HOSPITAL, DODOWA

“Protect Every Child: Vaccinate, Screen Early, and Keep Them Healthy”

The Public Health Unit of SODH is marking Child Health Promotion Week with a series of outreach activities aimed at improving immunization coverage, Vitamin A supplementation, and early screening of children from 6 months for ENT, Eye, and Oral health conditions — alongside routine CWC services.

Our team has already visited Dodowa Parent Academy, Pearly Mettle Montessori, Home of Grace, and George Memorial School, while also reaching eligible children within the hospital environment with Vitamin A, vaccinations, and caregiver education at the ANC and CWC.

The climax event holds on 20th May at Flatland — one of our hard-to-reach communities — featuring health screenings, food demonstrations, and EPI activities.

Because every child deserves a healthy start!
