OUTBREAK OF RESPIRATORY INFECTION IN GHANA
Influenza virus is part of seasonal flu viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs.

This occurs mostly during the rainy seasons, so nothing new except for late upsurge in numbers from the last 2 weeks.

It started from a school in Volta Region then Eastern Region now in Greater Accra with a myriad of Students from Legon and lower school around having a lot of cases in the last week.

SYMPTOMS

fever with any of the ff:
1. Cough
2. Sore throat
3. Headache
4. Nasal discharge/congestion
5. Muscle aches
6. Vomiting

MODE OF SPREAD
1. Direct Contact with persons with any of the above symptoms.

2. Inhalation of virus-laden aerosols.

3. Contact with contaminated objects touched by people with flu Eg. Doorknobs.

PREVENTION
1.Frequent hand washing with soap & water

2. Usage of hand sanitizers .

3. Covering your mouth and nose with tissue/ handkerchief when you cough or sneeze.

4. Avoiding touching your face or picking your nose with unwashed hands.
