Tema General Hospital on 28th May 2026 received a team from the United States Government Integrated Health Partnership Activity ( USG/ IHP) implemented by Project HOPE. The engagement involved strategic and support discussion initially and then the donation of various medical gadgets and equipment.

This equipment support is part of a five-year strategic initiative aimed at strengthening maternal, newborn, and child healthcare systems across Ghana and reducing maternal and infant mortality by 2030.

The donated equipment included bilirubinometers, uterine ballon tamponade, laryngoscope, nebulizer, non - rebreather masks among others.These items will greatly enhance the quality of care provided to mothers and babies at TGH. Beyond the equipment donation, the partnership also focuses on building the capacity of healthcare professionals to effectively manage critical conditions such as postpartum hemorrhage and eclampsia.

We sincerely appreciate the continued collaboration between the U.S. Government, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and all stakeholders committed to improving healthcare delivery in Ghana.

Strengthening Partnerships for better healthcare delivery remains a key priority for Tema General Hospital.

Management of Tema General Hospital (TGH) hosted a select management team from the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH). There was a presentation focused on expanding patient care pathways through advanced diagnostics, specialist services, and collaborative clinical support.
The session highlighted opportunities for collaboration in areas such as laparoscopic surgery, oncology care, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, dialysis services, advanced imaging, ICU/NICU support, and emergency care. Discussions also evolved into the importance of coordinated care and referrals in improving patient outcomes and ensuring access to specialized healthcare services.

Tema General Hospital continues to pursue strategic collaborations that enhance quality comprehensive healthcare delivery for patients within Tema and beyond.

On Monday, 18th May 2026, the Mercy Ships team arrived at Tema General Hospital to provide life-changing surgical care for patients across Ghana.

Registration and screening started on 18th May and will continue until 5th June 2026. Screening is also taking place at selected health facilities nationwide to help more patients benefit from this initiative.

Registration and screening exercises will run over the next 3 weeks to ensure patients receive proper care and support.

On Monday, 18th May 2026, the Mercy Ships team arrived at Tema General Hospital, marking a new chapter in delivering life-changing surgical care to patients across Ghana.

This collaboration represents a significant milestone in advancing hope, healing, and quality healthcare services within our community.

Through this partnership, patients will gain access to specialized surgical interventions and compassionate medical support designed to transform lives.

Registration and screening began on 18th May 2026 and will continue until 5th June 2026. These processes are essential for identifying patients in need of surgical care and ensuring appropriate follow-up support after surgery.

To enhance accessibility, screening exercises are also being conducted at selected health facilities nationwide, ensuring that patients across the country can benefit from this initiative.

Surgical recruitment has commenced, with procedures scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Purple Month is here again, and we are actively taking steps to raise awareness on mental health across our catchment areas and the entire Tema Metropolis.

On Day 2 of Mental Health Awareness Month, we continue our outreach with renewed energy and commitment. The focus is to educate the public on mental health conditions, promote understanding, and break the stigma surrounding mental illness. We also encourage individuals and families to seek help early and support one another with care and compassion.

Through community engagement, education, and advocacy, we aim to build a society where mental health is prioritized just like physical health. Together, we can make a real difference in saving lives and restoring hope.

We are excited to announce that Purple Month is here once again, and this year, we are going all out to create mental health awareness across our catchment areas and within the Tema Metropolis.

As part of our outreach efforts, the Mental Health Unit of Tema General Hospital is committed to educating, supporting, and promoting the importance of mental well-being in our communities.
