🩸 Healthy Communities, Strong Nation: Empowering Medical Students to Drive Change

On 22 July 2026, the Family Health University Medical Students’ Association (FHU MSA), as part of its Medical Students’ Association Week celebration themed “Healthy Communities, Strong Nation: Empowering Medical Students to Drive Change,” demonstrated that medical education goes beyond the classroom—it is also about compassion, service, and community impact.

In collaboration with the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH) Paediatric Oncology Department and Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG), the association organised a blood donation drive to support children receiving care at the Paediatric Oncology Unit. 🩸❤️

The FHU MSA also made a generous GHS 5,000 donation to the CCCG account to support patient care and donated boxes of sanitary pads to adolescent girls on the Paediatric Ward. These thoughtful contributions will help address practical needs and support the wellbeing and treatment journey of children and families affected by childhood cancer.

🌟 Working Together for a Future Where Every Child Survives Childhood Cancer🎗️

On 26th June 2026, Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG) m was privileged to participate in the 2026 Annual General and Scientific Meeting of the Childhood Cancer Society of Ghana (CCSG) held at the Alisa Hotel, Accra.

This year's theme, "Towards the WHO GICC 60% Survival: Timely Diagnosis and Access to Effective Therapy," brought together paediatric oncologists, healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, partners, and advocates, all united by one purpose: improving survival outcomes for children living with cancer in Ghana.

Throughout the day, we were engaged in impactful sessions, including:

📊 Eye-opening scientific research presentations by leading Paediatric Oncologists, showcasing the latest evidence and innovations in childhood cancer care.

💬 A dynamic multidisciplinary panel discussion focused on the importance of timely diagnosis and improving access to effective, life-saving therapies for every child.

🌍 An educational session on the WHO Global Platform for Childhood Cancers (GPACCM), highlighting global strategies and collaborative efforts to strengthen childhood cancer care in Ghana and beyond.

The meeting also provided a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow stakeholders, exchange ideas, and strengthen partnerships that will help shape the future of paediatric cancer care in Ghana. We left inspired, encouraged, and even more committed to our mission of ensuring that every child diagnosed with cancer has access to timely, quality treatment and the support they deserve.

Our sincere appreciation goes to Prof. Lorna Awo Renner, the Childhood Cancer Society of Ghana, and the entire organizing committee for hosting such an impactful and insightful meeting. Together, we are moving closer to a future where more children survive childhood cancer.

From Ghana to Nigeria, advancing care for every child with cancer. At the SIOP Africa Congress 2026, Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG) joined leading experts across Africa to drive conversations on improving childhood cancer outcomes.
Our contribution went beyond participation:
• Programme Manager, Salma S. Fuseini, facilitated a session on Civil Society & Parents: Palliative Care
• Oncology Nurse Patricia Boamah presented research on Paediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS), critical for early detection and saving lives.

Too many children in Africa still face barriers to care. Improving outcomes requires more than medicine, it requires strong systems, skilled teams, and support for families.
At CCCG, we are working to remove these barriers every day.

At Cure Childhood Cancer Ghana (CCCG), we are committed to strengthening systems that improve outcomes for children with cancer. 🎗️

Last week, members of our team — Salma S. Fuseini (Programme Manager) and Crepindale Quist (Head of Strategic Communications) — represented CCCG at the ALSAC Sub-Saharan Africa Workshop on Paediatric Oncology in Lagos, Nigeria.

The workshop brought together organizations across the region to share knowledge, reflect on challenges, and co-create solutions to improve childhood cancer care.

✨ Key insights that continue to guide our work:
• Strong foundations are rooted in their own health systems
• Minimize surprises so you have time to react

These lessons reinforce the importance of strong governance, proactive financial management, and strategic partnerships in delivering sustainable impact.

Through our alliance with ALSAC and participation in the Global Scholars Programme (7th Cohort), CCCG continues to strengthen its capacity to deliver better care and support for children and families.

Together, we are building stronger systems, empowering institutions, and giving more children a fighting chance. 💛
