The mansion was finally quiet.
Most of the servants had already gone home while the remaining staff cleaned silently downstairs.
Only the sound of rain outside remained.
Inside the laundry area near the kitchen—
Althea carefully washed Damian Laurent’s white blazer beneath warm running water.
The faint red wine stain still remained across the expensive fabric.
Her hands moved slowly.
Carefully.
As if one mistake could destroy everything.
“I ruined it…”
She whispered softly to herself.
No matter how gently she cleaned—
The stain wouldn’t disappear completely.
“You’ll ruin it more if you keep staring at it like that.”
Althea flinched immediately.
Damian stood near the doorway.
One hand inside his pocket.
White dress shirt slightly unbuttoned at the collar.
Sleeves rolled neatly to his forearms.
For the first time—
He looked less intimidating.
More human.
Althea quickly lowered her gaze.
“I’m sorry…”
“I’ll pay for it somehow.”
Damian slowly walked closer.
“You?”
His eyes moved briefly across her appearance.
The wrinkled maid uniform.
The rolled sleeves.
The exhausted expression on her face.
“With what money?”
The words sounded harsh.
But strangely—
His voice no longer sounded mocking.
Althea quietly clenched the blazer tighter.
“I’ll find a way.”
For a moment—
Damian said nothing.
Then his gaze lowered toward her hands.
His expression changed slightly.
“You’re injured.”
Althea immediately hid her left hand behind her back.
“It’s nothing.”
But Damian stepped closer before she could move away.
Then suddenly—
He grabbed her wrist gently.
Althea froze instantly.
His hand felt warm.
Too warm.
A small cut near her fingers was still bleeding slightly from the broken glass earlier.
Damian stared at the injury silently.
Then—
Without warning—
He pulled a clean white handkerchief from his pocket.
Carefully wrapping it around her injured hand.
Gentle.
Slow.
Unexpectedly careful.
Althea looked up in shock.
Their eyes met beneath the warm kitchen lights.
And for one dangerous second—
Neither of them looked away.

The dining hall felt suffocating.
Althea stood quietly beside the enormous marble table while servants prepared dinner carefully around her.
Soft piano music echoed throughout the mansion while rain continued pouring outside the tall glass windows.
Everything looked beautiful.
Elegant.
Perfect.
And somehow—
Althea felt more out of place than ever.
She carefully arranged wine glasses while trying to ignore Sophia Devereux sitting beside Damian Laurent.
Sophia elegantly crossed her legs before glancing toward Althea again.
“You should learn your place.”
Her voice sounded calm.
But cruel.
Althea lowered her gaze quietly.
“Yes, ma’am.”
Across the table—
Damian sat calmly checking messages on his phone.
Cold.
Unreadable.
Untouchable.
Then suddenly—
“Serve the wine.”
Althea immediately moved.
“Yes, sir.”
She carefully lifted the expensive red wine bottle before stepping beside Damian.
But her hands trembled slightly beneath the pressure.
The moment she poured—
Her fingers slipped.
CRASH!
The crystal glass shattered violently across the marble floor.
Red wine splashed across Damian’s white blazer and shirt.
Silence.
Complete silence.
The piano music stopped.
Althea’s face immediately turned pale.
“I-I’m sorry…”
Sophia scoffed loudly.
“Unbelievable.”
Nearby servants quickly rushed forward nervously to clean the broken glass.
But Damian slowly stood first.
The atmosphere instantly became heavier.
Dangerous.
Everyone waited for him to lose his temper.
Instead—
Damian calmly removed his wine-stained white blazer.
Then held it toward Althea.
“Clean it properly.”
Althea carefully accepted the expensive coat with trembling hands.
Then Damian leaned slightly closer.
Close enough for only her to hear him.
“And stop shaking every time I look at you.”
Althea froze completely.
Because for one brief second—
She thought she saw amusement inside Damian Laurent’s eyes.

The Laurent Mansion was too quiet.
Althea carefully walked through the enormous entrance hall after changing into her maid uniform.
The polished marble floors reflected the chandelier lights above her.
Servants passed by quietly carrying trays and expensive dishes.
No one spoke much.
Everything inside the mansion felt strict.
Controlled.
Cold.
Althea lowered her head slightly as she adjusted the sleeves of her uniform.
She still felt nervous after earlier.
After Damian Laurent’s words.
Who let the stray in?
“Go help prepare the dining hall,” one of the older maids whispered kindly.
Althea nodded immediately.
“Yes, ma’am.”
Inside the dining hall—
The atmosphere felt even more intimidating.
Crystal glasses sparkled beneath the enormous chandelier while servants carefully prepared dinner.
Althea quietly helped arrange utensils near the far end of the table.
Trying not to make mistakes.
Trying not to be noticed.
But then—
“Stop.”
A cold voice echoed across the room.
Althea froze instantly.
Damian Laurent stood near the entrance of the dining hall.
One hand inside his pocket.
Sharp dark eyes locked directly onto her.
Even dressed casually—
he still looked untouchable.
His gaze slowly moved across her appearance.
From her damp hair…
To the black maid uniform.
Then finally—
To her blue eyes again.
“You’re dripping water on the floor.”
Althea immediately stepped back nervously.
“I-I’m sorry.”
“I’ll clean it.”
Damian walked closer slowly.
Every step made the room feel heavier.
The servants nearby immediately lowered their heads.
No one dared interrupt him.
Damian stopped directly in front of Althea.
Close enough for her to notice:
faint rain scent
expensive cologne
sharp jawline beneath the warm lights
“You work after school?” he suddenly asked.
Althea blinked in surprise.
How did he know?
Before she could answer—
A woman’s voice interrupted softly.
“Damian.”
Althea turned immediately.
Sophia Devereux slowly descended the grand staircase wearing an elegant white satin dress.
Beautiful.
Graceful.
Perfect.
Sophia walked directly beside Damian before gently wrapping her arm around his.
Then finally—
Her eyes landed on Althea.
Cold.
Judging.
“And who is this?”
Damian glanced at Althea emotionlessly.
“Just someone working here.”
The words hurt more than they should have.
Althea quietly lowered her gaze.
But secretly—
Something inside her chest cracked a little.
Because for some reason—
She hated hearing Damian say that.

Inside one of the fashion studios—

Pencil lines moved carefully beneath her fingers as she adjusted the sleeve design of an elegant evening gown she had been working on for days.
Soft cream fabric.
Ribbon details.
Hand-stitched lace patterns.
Beautiful despite being unfinished.
Professor Helena quietly stopped beside her desk.
For a moment, she simply stared at the sketch.
Then smiled softly.
“You made this design yourself?”
Althea looked up nervously.
“Yes, professor.”
Professor Helena lifted the paper slightly.
“You have talent, Althea.”
The compliment caught her off guard.
“T-Thank you…”
Before the conversation could continue—
“ALTHEA!”
Erika Santos rushed dramatically into the classroom holding two iced coffees.
“You’re still drawing?!”
“The rain outside is insane!”
Althea immediately checked the clock.
Her face paled.
“The mansion shift…”
Erika groaned loudly.
“You seriously need sleep.”
“You worked last night too!”
Althea quietly packed her sketchbook inside her worn black backpack.
“I need the money.”
Outside the school—
Heavy rain flooded the streets.
Althea pulled the sleeves of her beige handmade coat closer around herself before opening her umbrella.
Several students glanced toward her outfit again.
Because even in simple clothes—
Althea somehow looked elegant.
About an hour later—
The enormous gates of the Laurent Mansion appeared through the storm.
Golden lights glowed warmly from inside the massive estate while luxury cars lined the driveway.
Beautiful.
Cold.
Untouchable.
Althea tightened her grip on her bag before approaching the entrance.
A security guard opened the gate slightly.
“You’re late.”
She lowered her head immediately.
“Sorry… class ended late.”
The guard sighed before allowing her inside.
But before Althea could walk farther—
Headlights suddenly illuminated the rain behind her.
A sleek black luxury car stopped near the mansion entrance.
The driver’s door slowly opened.
Damian Laurent stepped out.
Black tailored suit.
Silver watch.
Cold unreadable eyes.
Everything about him radiated power without effort.
Rain barely seemed allowed to touch him.
Althea immediately lowered her gaze respectfully.
But Damian’s sharp eyes landed on her instantly.
Her soaked boots.
Her tired face.
The worn black backpack hanging from her shoulder.
Then—
His gaze shifted slightly.
To her eyes.

For one brief moment—
