So, I’ve officially started my new job with Sarasota OB/GYN Associates!

The practice has offices in Sarasota, Bradenton, and Venice, and I’ll be working at all three. There’s also an office in Port Charlotte, but thankfully I don’t have to make that trip.
Annie and I are really enjoying the Florida sunshine. ☀️ We’re still unpacking and gradually moving the rest of our furniture down to Sarasota, but it’s starting to feel like home.
For my first two weeks, I’m spending a lot of time in computer training. I also have to learn the hospital’s EMR system—even though they’re switching to Epic in about three months!
What amazes me is that none of these EMR systems communicate well with each other. Every system is different, every interface works differently, and every time you change hospitals or practices, you have to learn another one. This will be the fourth EMR system I’ve had to learn.
Who decided that medicine needed government-mandated electronic records but forgot to make sure the systems could actually talk to one another—or even work somewhat the same way? 😡
We were promised that EMRs would make healthcare more efficient. Instead, physicians spend countless hours learning different systems and clicking through different screens.
So far, I’m enjoying Sarasota. The sunshine is great. The computers…not so much! 😂☀️
