European recognition for Film in Hospital!
Our initiative has been listed among the best EU practices in the new report Culture and Health: Time to Act!
We’ve been recognized as an example of how culture and creativity can improve health and wellbeing.
We bring the magic of film to children and young people in hospitals, reducing isolation and inspiring creativity. The project already brings together 8 partners across 8 countries, and by 2026 it will expand to 12!
More than 150 films, 12 languages, and over 400 workshops each year.
This recognition confirms that our model is becoming a European benchmark – and motivates us to go even further, together.

Film in Hospital Presented at the EU Work Plan for Culture Meeting in Zagreb

🎬 On June 12–13, 2025, during the 7th Meeting of the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) Working Group of Member States' Experts, held at the School of Public Health “Andrija Štampar” in Zagreb hosted by Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, we proudly presented our project Film in Hospital — a pan-European initiative that connects film culture with pediatric care.

📍 The event focused on Priority B: Culture for the People, specifically the topic Culture and Health, under the EU Work Plan for Culture 2023–2026.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Kornelia Kiss for her inspiring introduction to our publication, Toolbox of Good Practice: Film in Hospital. It was a pleasure to meet her during our presentation at the OMC Working Group on Culture and Health in Zagreb. Her thoughtful words and deep understanding of the cultural policy landscape have given our work valuable context and visibility at the European level.

🎬🌍 CineO’ 2025 – Film Festival in Hospital Unites Children Across Borders! 🌍🎬

From Zagreb to Bari, the second edition of CineO’ – a unique film festival for hospitalised children and youth – wrapped with warm celebrations and meaningful dialogues in both countries. Held within hospital environments and schools, CineO’ gave young patients, parents and teachers an equal voice in celebrating European cinema.

🇮🇹 On May 21, the Italian ceremony took place at Cinema Galleria in Bari with children from hospital schools and guests, including:

🕘 9:15 – Opening with Rosa Ferro, presentation of Cinema in ospedale and the CineO’ project
🎥 9:30 – Screening of "Coralli", awarded by:
👧 Children’s Jury in Italy
👨‍🏫 Teachers & Parents in Croatia
🎤 Followed by a live debate with the directors via videocall!

🎥 Films like "Il corvo", "Mucca sulla luna", "L’estate dallo spazio" (Children’s Jury Croatia) and "Cerottino" sparked conversation and reflection with teachers, filmmakers and guests like Dr. Ludovico Abbaticchio, Regional Guarantor for the Rights of Children.

🇭🇷 Meanwhile in Zagreb, the CineO’ closing event at KBC Sestre milosrdnice honoured:
🏆 "Ljeto iz svemira" – Teachers’ Jury Award (Croatia)
🏆 "Koralji" – Children’s Jury Award (Croatia), also celebrated in Italy!

Simona Sermazi (FKVK Zaprešić) and Maja Ogrizović (Film in Hospital Croatia) joined the conversation, while Kids Meet Art, BUFF, Hrvatski filmski savez and hospital staff ensured everything ran smoothly.

A young boy dreams of becoming a professional footballer and playing in the biggest stadiums, but before he can do this he has to win a match in a little yard, against a goose.

Born in 1979 in the Czech Republic, Jan Mika gained a Bachelor's in directing from FAMU in Prague, followed by a Master's in Visual Effects and Traditional Animation from FAMO in Pisek. He focuses mainly on animated and hybrid films.

We celebrate Women's Day with films from FIlm in Hospital Film Catalogue 2024–2026 that highlight women's rights. One of them is 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚!, the story about a little girl who is different. Her world is Coyoacán in Mexico. Sparkling and vibrant, everything interests her. And when life’s trials and tribulations come her way, she faces them with her overflowing imagination. Our European 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 traditionally gathers twice a year, on our regular meetings, but we don’t miss a chance for a meet-up! This year’s Berlinale - Berlin was one of those chances since most of partners came to see what’s new in the industry and to be inspired with films, people, energy and ideas.

Thanks to our German partners, Schlingel and its director, Michael Harbauer, we’ve had a productive meeting at the best location. One step closer in bringing film magic to hospitalized kids & youth all over the Europe!

Berlinale treated us well, looking forward to the next edition as well as to next opportunities to meet in person with Film in Hospital family.
