Surfing Doctors

Our group have already proven themselves in various arenas and the common theme is that we are prepared to go over and above the call of duty for our fellow man in need with no expectation of financial reward.

Australian doctor Nathan Cash is spending his locum year the way plenty of Surfing Doctors would understand: living out of a camper, working along the way and chasing waves around Australia. With a couple of G-Land trips already behind him and rural generalism somewhere on the horizon, we caught up with Nathan somewhere between the Sunshine Coast and Broome. - link for full interview - https://surfingdoctors.com/nathan-cash-joins-the-surfing-doctors/

Goofy-footer, medical student, photographer, tube maestro and surf forecaster, Cole Heine keeps himself busy and is one of the newest members to sign up with the Surfing Doctors.

As soon as he had filled in the paper work so to speak (there’s not much paperwork), he was en route to Indo and the Jawa Jiwa camp at G-Land, home to the upcoming Surfing Doctors Annual Conference 2026.

While there, Cole met up with a pumping swell that stuck around for days, and managed to score a few absolute bombs in the process.

“Being in the ocean and solving the puzzle. Studying the forecast, spending time watching how a wave behaves, learning which swells, tides and winds make it work, trying different boards to find the right match, and then finally putting it all together to score epic surf - that’s just the coolest thing in the world.” - Cole Heine.

A full interview with Cole lives on our website, link in bio.

Indo has been on the pump for the last two weeks. Lots of swell and energy at G-Land, but some bombs at Ulus and Padang. Surfing Doctors core member Simon Noth scored epic Outside Corner, with just a handful of guys in the water. A long and arduous paddle thinned out the population completely, but Simon got some good training for the upcoming Surfing Doctors Annual Conference at Jawa Jiwa G-land next month.

We don’t usually surrender to the Flashback Friday trope, but Indonesia 2023 makes a reasonable case for it.

Warm water, quality waves, tropical Indonesia and a gathering of doctors with a fairly convincing argument for combining continuing medical education with time in the ocean.

A few frames from the Surfing Doctors Conference and around Indonesia at the time. Excellent waves, familiar faces and reminders of a very good trip.

Good times, good people, and a conference format that remains difficult to improve upon.

With the Surfing Doctors Annual Conference at Jawa Jiwa, G-Land just around the corner, we dug out some recent and archival lefts from around the world to get us into the rhythm of Kongs, Moneytrees, Launch Pads and Speedies — and all those little sections in between.

If you want to be part of one of the most unusual medical conferences in the world, track us down via the link in our bio. There are still a few spots left.

Gnarly lefts ©️ WSL, plus a couple of screen grabs from here and there.

Catching Up with Sam Duffy.
"...all going to plan, stick the late drop into a deep bottom turn before setting up a few turns at the top of the point before shaping up for a hollow section through Money Trees or into Speedies.
In reality, I probably went over the falls and am making the paddle of shame back up the point, but I wouldn’t die wondering."

Catching Up with Sam Duffy. From Wollongong to annual missions to Indonesia, Sam has built his life around medicine and surf.
