Only 26% of people globally wash their hands with soap after using the toilet. Yes, the number has perhaps increased since the study was conducted, but we still have a long way to go.

Behind this number are real challenges: access, infrastructure, and awareness. But also, an opportunity, for all of us to do better.

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) remain a constant risk for patients in hospitals and clinics, especially during public health emergencies.

At the same time, investing in infection prevention, control, and proper hand hygiene is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve patient safety and health outcomes across all countries.

Now is the time to prioritize strong infection prevention and hand hygiene practices in every healthcare setting. Action is needed from everyone.
