What started with an idea at Irish Diary has become a journey shared by people all over the world.

For our 20th anniversary, our founder opened a box filled with letters from people who have used the Get Up and Go Diary over the years — stories of fresh starts, difficult days, big dreams, and small moments that mattered.

Reading just one of those letters brought the last 20 years into perspective.

'You don't stop playing because you get old; you get old because you stop playing'.

Do we really believe that 'playing' is just for children?
Now that were adults, it's all about work, and the fun is over?
Surely not!!

Children learn everything worthwhile through play. They play all sorts of game; mostly they make up their own.
Having fun is the most important aspect of the game!
If it's no fun, they don't want to play.

We can learn a lot from children. They are curious, and brave, and willing and excited to discover something new. This is the essence of youth.

Where in life have you stopped playing, stopped having fun, stopped being curious, and brave, and willing, and excited about learning something new? When did you decide you were too old to learn to play a new game? Piano? Scrabble? Pickleball? Hamlet?

We can play all sorts of games ... it's up to us to ensure we are having fun.

Life is too short to be too significant about too many things.

"Re-examine all that you have been told; dismiss that which insults your soul" (Walt Whitman)

So much of what we have been 'told' over our lives, is simply not true.

We listen to some people like they are the authority, the expert, the 'one who knows' ....they may even have compelling evidence .. when in fact, they too are ordinary people who have an opinion, a point of view, a personal experience - that colours what they say.

They spoke - you listened.
It's was your ears, your mind, your heart and your soul that was being reached.
It was you who believed or disbelieved what they said.
It was you who trusted what they were "telling" you was the truth.

Was it?

What was 'true' then, may not be true now.

Every day we get to listen with new ears.
Every day we get to observe with our own eyes.
Every day we get an opportunity to discern what is true today.

Listen .. not just with your intellect, your reasoning, your deductions, or your inherited beliefs from yesterday ... and dismiss that which insults your soul today ...

In your heart you know what's true.
