Three steps, and none of them are complicated.
PRP — platelet-rich plasma — is made from your own blood. Nothing
donated, nothing added.

A small sample is drawn from your arm, the same way as any routine
blood test. It goes into a centrifuge, and spinning separates it by
density into layers. The thin layer concentrated in platelets is
drawn off.

That is the whole preparation.

Platelets carry growth factors, and that is the reason PRP is being
studied in fertility care — applied either to the endometrium or to
the o***y.

But being studied is not the same as being proven. PRP is an add-on,
and the HFEA rates the evidence red for both uses: no evidence from
randomised controlled trials that it is effective and safe.

Myth: "IVF is only for older women."

It's one of the most persistent ideas about fertility treatment, and it stops people asking questions earlier than they should.

The average age of a patient starting IVF is 34.8 — data from the HFEA, the UK fertility regulator, for 2024. Plenty of patients are in their twenties and early thirties.

Age matters, and we won't pretend otherwise. But it isn't the only reason people need help. Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, endometriosis, male factor infertility and unexplained infertility all affect people at any age.

If something doesn't feel right, the useful thing is a conversation — not a birthday.

The IVF journey, in five steps.

If you're at the start of this, here's what the process actually looks like — no jargon.

1️⃣ Stimulation — daily hormone injections encourage your ovaries to mature several eggs at once, with scans along the way to see how things are progressing.

2️⃣ Egg collection — a short day procedure, done under sedation, to collect the mature eggs.

3️⃣ Fertilisation — the eggs meet s***m in our lab. Where it's needed, we use ICSI, where a single s***m is injected directly into an egg.

4️⃣ Embryo transfer — an embryo is placed into the womb in a quick, gentle procedure. Any remaining suitable embryos can be frozen for later.

5️⃣ The two-week wait — often the hardest part. A blood test at the end of it confirms the result.

Every journey is a little different, and yours will be planned around you.
