New grad nurse reminder: As you begin your journey as a new graduate nurse, remember that you do not have to know everything all at once. Nursing is a journey of continuous learning, growth, and self-discovery.
There will be challenging days, moments of self-doubt, and times when you feel overwhelmed, but these moments do not define your ability to become an excellent nurse. They are part of the process of becoming stronger, wiser, and more confident.
Build your resilience to strengthen your mindset. Give yourself permission to learn from your mistakes, ask questions, and keep going. Never give up on yourself! No one will do it for you, so don't waste too much time feeling sorry for yourself!
Your resilience level will grow each time you face a challenge, reflect on it, learn from it, and choose to try again. Be patient with yourself because a bad leadership style will break you with criticism, so learn to celebrate your progress, even when it feels small.
You are not expected to be perfect from the lecturer in school, but we are expected to be willing to learn, to care, to grow, and to keep showing up.
My advice from my pre-reg nurse to you is to bring your resilience level up. You are capable of more than you may realise, and every shift is another opportunity to grow into the nurse you are becoming. Reflection is the cornerstone of your growth, so make use of it.
