To mark International Day of Older Persons and its theme of ‘Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives’, Dovida’s Director of Disability Services, Kathy McLoughlin shares a personal account of how an interconnected home care system acted to keep her mother at home where she wants to be.

As more of us live into our late eighties, nineties, and beyond, our support systems must adapt to accommodate the choices of people living increasingly longer lives.

Home care should not simply be a matter of completing tasks, it should be delivered as part of a Circle of Care that incorporates family, community, and professional support to deliver the best outcomes for the person at the centre.

Our Caregivers provide expert dementia care which supports an individual’s dignity, privacy and autonomy. Family carers can use many of the same techniques.
