A lot of women who come to me are told: “You are ovulating, everything looks fine.”

But ovulation is not just about whether it happens. It is about how well it happens.

Ovulation quality depends on:
• hormone balance
• egg development
• progesterone levels after ovulation

If these are not optimal, it can affect:
• implantation
• early pregnancy support
• overall chances of conception

This is often why couples are left feeling confused when everything appears “normal” on the surface.

You already know the joy of becoming a parent.

That can make secondary infertility especially difficult, because many couples feel they should simply be grateful for the child they already have.
But your desire to grow your family is just as valid.

Secondary infertility affects around 1 in 6 couples, yet it is often overlooked.
The good news is that fertility can change over time, and many of the factors affecting conception are treatable when properly investigated.

Whether it's changes in ovulation, hormone balance, thyroid function, s***m health or another underlying cause, understanding why you're struggling is the first step.

If you're finding it difficult to conceive again, know that you're not alone, and there are answers worth exploring.

Your thyroid does much more than regulate your metabolism.

It can have a significant impact on your fertility too.

Here are three reasons why:

1. An underactive thyroid can affect the hormonal signals needed for ovulation, meaning you may not ovulate regularly.

2. High thyroid antibodies and poorly controlled thyroid function can affect implantation and early embryo development.

3. Even mild thyroid abnormalities have been associated with an increased risk of miscarriage and pregnancy complications.

The challenge is that many women have no obvious thyroid symptoms and may not realise it could be affecting their fertility journey.

This is why thyroid health should always be considered as part of a comprehensive fertility assessment.

If you have been told everything is normal but are still struggling to conceive, there may be more to investigate.
