๐Ÿงก Children understand more than we think. ๐Ÿงก

Talking about neurodiversity early makes differences feel normal, and not something to hide. When we talk openly about differences, we build acceptance.

โญ Small, everyday conversations help children grow into accepting, confident, and empathetic people.ย

๐Ÿงก This is how inclusive environments start.

Reading with your child can sometimes feel like pressureโ€ฆ
๐Ÿ‘‰ Sitting still
๐Ÿ‘‰ Turning pages
๐Ÿ‘‰ Reading every word

But thatโ€™s not what builds language.
So what actually helps?

๐Ÿงก Talking about the pictures
๐Ÿงก Following your childโ€™s interest
๐Ÿงก Making it interactive

My reading guide breaks this down step-by-step so you know exactly how to support engagement, early language, and pre-literacy skills from birth right up to preschool age.ย

If your child repeats phrases, scripts, or lines from TV shows, they may be a Gestalt Language Processor.

That is not something to change or fix but it is something that we can learn to understand.
When we change how we respond, we unlock communication in a way that actually works for them.

๐Ÿงก Less correcting
๐Ÿงก More connection

Save this for later.

What would you say if someone told you that they or their child were autistic?

Avoid negative or dismissive comments like:
โŒ She doesnโ€™t look autistic.
โŒ I'm sorry to hear that.ย
โŒ We're all a bit on the spectrum, aren't we?ย
โŒ That must be so hard.ย
โŒ They're really over-diagnosing everything these days.

Instead be supportive and appreciative:
โœ… Thank you for telling me.
โœ… That's helpful for me to know.ย
โœ… Let me know if there's anything that helps him feel comfortable.ย
โœ… She is lucky to have you learning about her needs.ย

Ask supportive questions to find out more and help your understanding:ย
โœ… Are there any supports or accomodations that work well for her?ย
โœ… What does he enjoy?ย
โœ… Is there anything I can do to support you?

Save this for future use โญ

Let's talk about how to support siblings of autistic children today on Siblings Day.

Siblings of autistic children often grow up kind and resilient, but they can also feel confused, left out, or under pressure.

Hereโ€™s how to support them:
๐Ÿงก Normalise mixed feelings (love and frustration can coexist)
๐Ÿงก Have regular special 1:1 time
๐Ÿงก Explain autism in positive, age-appropriate ways
๐Ÿงก Keep them a sibling, not a second parent
Small, consistent support makes a big difference.

๐ŸŒท๐Ÿฃ Easter is full of social moments - greetings, giving and accepting gifts, sharing, group games, egg hunts.
For many neurodivergent children, these expectations can feel unclear or exhausting.

Try these to support neurodivergent children:

๐ŸŒท Model language without forcing performance
๐ŸŒท Accept all forms of communication (speech, AAC, gesture, movement)
๐ŸŒท Reduce pressure to say thank you on demand
๐ŸŒท Prioritise connection over compliance

Participation doesnโ€™t have to look typical to be meaningful.
This Easter, letโ€™s make space for authentic communication, however it shows up. ๐Ÿงก
