💈 A Chair That Survived History 💈
Today, 31st May, marks 85 years since the North Strand Bombing of 1941, one of the most devastating events in Dublin's history.
This barber chair is more than just a piece of furniture—it is a survivor.
When Roche's Barbershop on North Strand was destroyed during the bombing on the night of 31 May 1941, almost everything was lost. Amid the devastation, this chair was one of three barber chairs to survive. For generations, it remained a silent witness to the resilience of the Roche family and the rebuilding of their business and community.
Eighty-five years later, the chair stands as a tangible link to that tragic night, reminding us not only of the destruction caused by the bombing but also of the strength and determination of those who endured it.
A simple barber chair, preserved through generations, carrying with it a remarkable story of survival, family history, and Dublin's past.
