Equine Assisted Learning Session Report
Over the course of 5 weeks , significant progress has been
observed in the client’s emotional regulation and physical interaction
with others.
During the first session, the client grabbed my hand tightly and
pulled me strongly towards her. Clear and calm boundaries were
introduced, and she was gently supported to understand safe and
appropriate physical interaction.
Now, four weeks later, the client is able to hold my hand gently and
no longer pulls. This demonstrates increased body awareness, trust,
and improved self-regulation during sessions.
At times, the client can become dysregulated and may engage in
behaviour such as hitting her head . Throughout sessions,
co-regulation strategies, calm pacing, and predictable routines have
been consistently used to support her emotional safety.
During yesterday’s session, the client initially appeared
dysregulated. I calmly encouraged her by saying, “Come on,” while
handing her the lead rope and inviting her for a walk with the horse.
The client responded by taking a deep breath, visibly dropping her
shoulders, and then walking calmly alongside the horse. This was a
significant moment of self-regulation and demonstrated her growing
ability to use movement, connection, and the horse-human relationship
to regulate her emotions and body.
The client continues to show developing trust, emotional awareness,
and increased capacity for calm engagement within the equine assisted
learning environment.
