Do you have older teenagers?

You can continue to get Child Benefit for them when they are 16, 17 or 18 if they:

✅ Are in full-time education or training

✅ Have a disability and can't support themselves

The Department of Social Protection sends you an application form before your child’s 16th birthday. You sign this form and get it stamped by your child's school or institution, so your payments can continue.

If your child has finished 6th year but hasn’t started a course yet, Child Benefit will be paid until October, as long as they are under 19. Then, in September, you’ll get a form to fill out about the school or training they are going to do.

For your information

If you’re a mother, you can get a €140 a month Child Benefit payment for each of your kids, if they are under 16. 🧒

You can also get Child Benefit if you’ve a child who is 16, 17 or 18 and they:

✅ Are in full-time education or training, or

✅ Have a disability and can't support themselves

You are paid on the first Tuesday of every month. 🤝

A dad or step-dad can get the payment if the child doesn’t live with their mother or step-mother.

Irish Voices in Europe is a short-form video series designed to highlight and showcase the contribution of Irish people involved at EU level in advocacy, research, policy and awareness initiatives in neurological health.

The videos will enable you to connect with the real voices and experiences of people informing and driving change at European leve,l and will help you to relate to the human side of each experience and story.

Over the coming months, throughout Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, from July to December 2026, we will be featuring short video clips across all of our digital platforms.

This video series is a flagship communication feature of Neuro Connects. Neuro Connects is NAI's programme of advocacy, awareness and stakeholder engagement with the aim of raising awareness and increasing visibility of the neurological agenda during Ireland's 2026 Presidency of the European Union.
