Empower OT Paediatric Occupational Therapist | Dyslexia Specialist (children and adults) | Educator & Empowerment Advocate with 20+ Years of Experience
(1)

I’m Catriona, a Paediatric Occupational Therapist with over 20 years of experience. I specialise in assessing and supporting children’s fine and gross motor skills, coordination, motor planning, visual perception, reflex integration, attention, sensory processing, executive functioning, and daily living activities. I have a deep passion for helping families, teenagers, and young adults understand their unique sensory systems and develop effective self-regulation strategies. My work has recently extended to supporting university students through the Disability Office at Sligo ATU. Driven by the number of children with dyslexia attending my clinic, I completed a Master’s in Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia), further enhancing my ability to support those with learning challenges.

Oh I can so relate to this. It brings me back to my university days and the fact that if I have read something once I can't read it again. The cognitive demand it took and the inprint it left is enough for me to know it inside out. I need to hightlight and make notes as I read to capture my thoughts.

Do you read slowly, but get fully absorbed in a story? So does Steven Spielberg - and he's one of the world's best storytellers!

Read this brilliant article where he reveals his favourite stories of all time and which book he makes all of his 7 children read! It's based on an interview Steven did with Jack Edwards on TikTok.

Dyslexic thinkers process information differently, which may mean we read more slowly and it takes more energy. But like Steven, many of us are born storytellers, and lots of us access stories in different ways: through audiobooks, via films, through comics and graphic novels.

Tell us how you enjoy stories most in the comments.
