I emailed Jigsaw today about the potential of setting up a free therapy service for teenagers in Sligo. I think its badly needed in Sligo, especially for parents who can't afford private therapy for their children. While North West STOP is an excellent service, it is difficult for them to fund the length of time some teenagers need access to therapy.
This is the response I got from Jigsaw if anybody feels like contacting their local TD about it:
Hi Triona
Thank you for contacting Jigsaw.
Whilst we have had discussions regarding opening a service like us in Sligo we are depended on backing from the HSE and currently there is no plan for us to open up in Sligo.
We do ask for support from communities like Sligo who do not have access to a Jigsaw to help raise the awareness of having a Jigsaw in their community through speaking with their TDs.
We do offer a free online chat service via our website www.jigsaw.ie for any young person aged 12 to 25 years.
We thank you again for raising this awareness with us and I will pass it on to our senior management team as part of our on going commitment to support young peoples mental health across Ireland.
Jigsaw is a youth mental health charity in Ireland offering free therapy and support to children and young people aged 12 to 25.
