To all our scholars of 2026. Its lovely to walk towards what you want and always get there without disruption. But sometimes disruption leads us to the most beautiful experiences and wonderful people - ya know, the most enjoyable scenie route. If you get what you want fair play - rock on. If you dont get what you wanted remember - the universe has different plans for you. Neither is better than the other. Thats the beauty of life -
Best of luck and love to you all. X

Jennie’s Law is named for Jennifer Poole, 24-year-old woman murdered by her former partner Gavin Murphy in 2021.

When Jennie met Gavin, she was led to believe he had been living in Spain prior to their first meeting.

In truth Gavin had been serving a sentence for domestic abuse. Neither Jennie or her family knew this until it was too late.

Jennie’s Law means all people convicted of domestic abuse in Ireland can be publicly named on a register. Similar to Clare’s Law in the UK, also known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme. This means that one has a right to know if their partner or a potential partner has an abusive past.

Today, Jennie’s Law was officially passed by the Dáil. It will be enacted from tomorrow when Irish president Catherine Connolly signs it into law. There is hope that from this day, more women will be safer and spared the fate that Jennifer Poole met.
