It’s looking hot this bank holiday weekend! If the sun’s out where you are, slushies might be on the agenda ☀️

But it’s worth knowing that some slush drinks contain glycerol (E422), which helps create that icy texture. Younger children can be more sensitive to it, so:
⚠️ Under 7s should avoid slush drinks containing glycerol
🥤 Children aged 7–10 should have no more than one 350ml drink a day.

If you're not sure whether a slush contains glycerol, ask the seller or check the label – and if you can't find out, it's best to choose something else.

Travelling with a child who has additional needs?
If your child requires specific food, medication, or medical equipment (e.g. due to autism, ARFID, or other conditions), you may be able to bring extra items on your flight free of charge — but there are a few important things to know 👇
✔️ It usually applies to essential medical items only
✔️ You must contact the airline in advance (at least 48 hours before travel)
🧾 What you’ll need:
• A doctor’s letter explaining the need
• A list of required food/equipment
• Approval from the airline (get this in writing!)
📞 What to do:
Contact the airline’s Special Assistance team when booking (or as early as possible) and ask about medical baggage allowance
💡 Tip: Be clear and specific —
“My child requires additional food/medical supplies due to a diagnosed condition”
✨ Bottom line:
Extra support is often available — but it’s case-by-case and must be arranged in advance
Save this for your next trip & share with someone who might need it 💛

Spotted this display of stationery today.

Notebooks and pens branded with crisps, sugary cereals, sweets and soft drinks.

It seems harmless BUT it shows how deeply food marketing reaches into children’s everyday environments. When these brands appear on school supplies, the advertising doesn’t stop at the shop door. It follows children into classrooms and playgrounds.

In effect, children become walking advertisements for HFSS products.

If we’re serious about improving children’s food environments, it’s worth asking:

Should these brands be allowed to market through children and schools with items like this?
