Your Hair Can Be Getting Thinner Without You Losing More Hair.

One of the most misleading things about hair loss is that shedding and thinning aren’t the same story.

You can lose roughly the same number of hairs each day, yet gradually have less density.

Why? Because the issue may be what happens between shedding and regrowth—particularly when new hairs repeatedly grow finer or the growth cycle becomes less favourable.

So I don’t just ask, “How much hair are you losing?”

I also look at what your follicles are producing over time.

Sometimes, the quietest change is the most important one.

The Hair Fall Trigger Most Women Don’t Notice.

Your hair doesn’t necessarily fall because something is wrong with your hair.

Sometimes, it falls because your body has quietly decided that hair growth is no longer a priority.

A prolonged calorie deficit.
Rapid weight loss.
Poor sleep.
A stressful period.
Recovery after illness.
A major hormonal shift.

None of these needs to damage the follicle directly.

They can simply change the environment in which the follicle has to function.

And here’s the part many women miss:

The event that triggers the shedding may be long over by the time you notice the hair fall.

That’s why the timeline matters more than the hairbrush.

Sometimes, the first sign of hair loss isn’t hair fall.

It’s comparison.

You see an old photograph and suddenly notice that your parting was narrower, your ponytail fuller, your scalp less visible.

Nothing dramatic happened. You didn’t suddenly start losing handfuls of hair.

That’s the point.

Hair loss is often noticed in retrospect—because the change in density happens gradually enough for your eyes to adapt to it.

By the time shedding becomes obvious, the process may have been quietly evolving for months.

Sometimes, an old photograph tells the story your hairbrush never could.

PCOS-related hair loss? Start with your plate. 🌱

Aim for a balanced, protein-rich diet rather than a “hair-loss food.”

🍳 Eggs: 1–2/day — protein + B12
🥣 Curd/paneer: 1 serving (150–200 g) — protein + calcium
🫘 Dal/chickpeas: 1–1.5 cups cooked/day — protein + iron
🥬 Green vegetables: 1–2 cups/day — folate + antioxidants
🥜 Nuts & seeds: 20–30 g/day — healthy fats + minerals
🐟 Fish: 2–3 servings/week — protein + omega-3s
🍊 Fruit: 1–2 servings/day — fibre + antioxidants

Prioritize whole foods and adequate protein. Diet supports PCOS and hair health, but persistent hair loss needs evaluation of the underlying cause.

She Wanted to Continue My Hair Treatment. I Told Her to Stop.

A 34-year-old woman consulted me online after experiencing significant hair shedding during a prolonged period of stress. We reviewed her history, timeline of hair fall, shedding pattern, scalp condition and recent life changes.

After 4 months of treatment, her hair fall had improved considerably and the original concern was no longer requiring continued medication.

She was willing to continue—and keep spending on treatment.

But I advised her to stop.

At that stage, I felt consistent hair care and observation were more appropriate than continuing treatment simply because it could be continued.

A treatment should have a purpose—not an expiry date.

Scalp psoriasis is not just dandruff—and treating it like dandruff can make things worse. Gentle scalp care, avoiding triggers, managing scales carefully, and appropriate medical treatment can make a real difference.

A 43-year-old woman came to my clinic after months of persistent hair fall. She was already taking multiple hair supplements, hoping they would strengthen her hair.

I didn’t immediately recommend another product.

The problem wasn’t necessarily the supplement. The problem was taking it without knowing whether it addressed the reason behind her hair loss.

Hair fall can have very different underlying causes. Without identifying the pattern and cause first, even well-intentioned treatments can become guesswork.

So I focused on her history, hair-loss pattern, scalp, symptoms, lifestyle and possible underlying factors.

First understand WHY. Then decide WHAT to treat.

A 39-year-old woman from Bhubaneswar came to my clinic after months of worsening hair fall. She had already tried different shampoos, supplements and treatments—yet the problem kept returning.

What concerned me more wasn’t simply the amount of hair she was losing.

It was that nobody had clearly explained WHY.

Because without understanding the cause, every new treatment becomes another guess—and months can pass while the real problem remains unaddressed.

So I went deeper: her timeline, pattern of shedding, scalp, skin, symptoms, lifestyle and medical history.

In hair loss, finding the cause isn’t an extra step. It’s where the right treatment begins.

For 3 Years, She Thought Her Hair Loss Was Just a Hair Problem. Then I Noticed Her Skin.

A 37-year-old woman from Bhubaneswar visited my clinic for a consultation because of persistent hair loss. Her history suggested there was more to investigate than simply looking at the hair.

While reviewing her overall symptoms and skin history, I noticed clues pointing towards psoriasis—a condition that can involve the scalp and may contribute to inflammation, scaling, irritation and secondary hair shedding.

This is why I don’t look at hair loss in isolation.

I analyse the timeline, scalp, skin, symptoms and underlying patterns before deciding what the case actually needs.

Sometimes, the most important clue isn’t on the hair. It’s elsewhere.

A 47-year-old woman came to me with recurring red, thick, scaly patches on her hands. She had been managing the flare-ups with short-term creams, but the lesions repeatedly returned—especially during periods of stress and seasonal changes.

Instead of focusing only on suppressing the visible patches, I wanted to understand the pattern behind her psoriasis—when it started, what aggravated it, associated symptoms, lifestyle factors, and her previous treatment history.

Her case reminded me why chronic skin conditions deserve a deeper assessment: the lesion is visible, but the complete story is often hidden.

Every case has a story. Every story deserves careful analysis.
