(Neurofibromas)

(Café-au-lait spots)

CT Scan

🔎 Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN): Don't Ignore Bumps on the Back of Your Neck!

Have you noticed small bumps, pimples, or firm raised scars developing on the back of your neck or along the lower hairline? These may be a sign of Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN). Despite its name, AKN is not ordinary acne. It is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting hair follicles that can lead to permanent scarring and hair loss if left untreated.

⚠️ Common Symptoms:

✅ Small bumps or pimples on the back of the neck
✅ Itching, tenderness, or pain
✅ Pus-filled lesions in some cases
✅ Thick, raised keloid-like scars over time
✅ Permanent hair loss in the affected area

⚠️ Risk Factors:

• Very close haircuts or frequent razor shaving
• Repeated friction from tight collars, helmets, or sports gear
• Excessive sweating
• Chronic irritation and inflammation of the hair follicles

💡 Prevention Tips:

✔ Avoid picking or scratching the affected area.
✔ Do not shave the hair too closely.
✔ Minimize friction from collars, helmets, and tight clothing.
✔ Keep the area clean and dry.
✔ Consult a dermatologist as soon as symptoms appear.

🏥 Treatment:

Treatment depends on the severity of the condition and may include:

Topical or oral medications

Corticosteroid injections

Laser hair reduction

Minor surgical excision for advanced cases

Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent permanent scarring, recurrent inflammation, and irreversible hair loss. If you notice persistent bumps on the back of your neck, seek evaluation from a dermatologist without delay.
