The eleventh annual World Vitiligo Day takes place on June 25th, 2021.

Each year WVD is officially hosted by a different city and in 2021 it is the turn of 🇮🇩 Jakarta, Indonesia to act as campaign headquarters.

A rare skin disease, Vitiligo occurs due to lack of melanin, loss of pigment creating pale white patches on the skin. Almost 1-2 per cent of the population across the globe is suffering from this rare condition. Vitiligo is often met with misconceptions, so to create awareness among people, World Vitiligo Day 2021 is observed annually on June 25. This date was chosen in a memorial to music artist, Michael Jackson, who suffered from this rare skin disease until his death, which occurred on June 25, 2009.

📍Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria (aka Gunther's disease) is a severe and rare childhood porphyria causing lifelong mutilating photosensitivity and haematological disease.

📍CEP is an autosomal recessive inherited deficiency of uroporphyrinogen III cosynthase enzyme.

📍Our patient had mutilating scars over the face [Figure 1], corneal opacity [Figure 2], hypertrichosis of the chest, resorption of the terminal phalanx of the extremities [Figure 3] and brown-coloured teeth and teeth, urine and skin lesions showed reddish-orange fluorescence under Wood's lamp [Figure 4] and [Figure 5].

📍 CEP Patients should be on regular photoprotection and follow up for ulceration, photodamage, scar tissue and haemolytic anaemia.

📍Bone marrow transplant is the only cure.

⛳️Keratosis pilaris (KP) is a very common and affects 50-70% of adolescents and approximately 40% of adults.

⛳️Keratosis pilaris is harmless and is not infectious but can cause emotional discomfort.

⛳️The groups of small bumps are most common on the backs of the upper arms and on the fronts of the thighs.

⛳️No treatment clears keratosis pilaris completely, but it can improve the condition temporarily.

⛳️Emollients (moisturisers) can be of benefit.

⛳️Creams containing salicylic acid, lactic acid and/or urea are more effective than emollients and can be purchased over the counter or obtained on prescription from the doctor.

🖌The theme for World Diabetes Day 2020 is The Nurse and Diabetes. The campaign aims to raise awareness around the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people living with diabetes.

🖌Nurses currently account for over half of the global health workforce. They do outstanding work to support people living with a wide range of health concerns. People who either live with diabetes or are at risk of developing the condition need their support too.

🖌People living with diabetes face a number of challenges, and education is vital to equip nurses with the skills to support them.

🖌As the number of people with diabetes continues to rise across the world, the role of nurses and other health professional support staff becomes increasingly important in managing the impact of the condition.

🖌Healthcare providers and governments must recognise the importance of investing in education and training. With the right expertise, nurses can make the difference for people affected by diabetes.

Many people say that the itch is the most bothersome of all their psoriasis symptoms. To relieve the itch, dermatologists give their patients the following eight tips:

📍Treat your psoriasis. The best way to get rid of the itch is to treat psoriasis

📍Remove scale. Less scale often means less itchiness. Removing scale can also improve the results you get from itch-relieving products.To remove scale, you want to use medicine like salicylic acid. This helps soften the scale, so you can gently brush it away. Pulling scale off can worsen psoriasis.

📍Limit shower time. Limit showers to 5 minutes and baths to 15 minutes or less. Spending too much time in the water can dry your skin, which can worsen the itch.

📍Use moisturizer. Applying a moisturizing cream or ointment after every hand washing, bath, and shower helps to seal much-needed moisture into your skin. Moisturizer helps reduce the redness and the itch. It also helps your skin heal.

📍Try an itch-relieving product. You can buy many of these without a prescription. Once that contains menthol, or camphor tends to work best for itchy psoriasis.

📍Moisturize instead of scratch. Grab your moisturizer when you have the urge to scratch. Instead of scratching, gently apply moisturizer to the itchy skin.

📍Skip hot baths. Skip hot baths and showers. The heat can make you more itchy.

📍Apply a cool compress. Placing something cool on the itchy skin can reduce the itch. The nerves that send itch signals to the brain don't work as well when they are cold.
