After hearing about another teenage su***de, itโs hard to stay silent.
This isnโt an isolated incident. The data in India tells a worrying story.
Su***de remains one of the leading causes of death among young people in the country. In 2023 alone, over ๐.๐ ๐ฅ๐๐ค๐ก ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ข๐๐, with a significant proportion being teens and young adults between 15 and 29. Government figures also show that su***des among children ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐๐ซ ๐๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐โ๐% from 2022 to 2023. (Source - NCRB report)
Behind these numbers are young people dealing with ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐, ๐๐ง๐ฑ๐ข๐๐ญ๐ฒ, ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ they donโt know how to talk about. Many struggle quietly. Others show signs that are often dismissed as โteenage behaviourโ.
Withdrawal, irritability, sudden mood changes, falling grades or losing interest arenโt just phases to ignore. They can be early signals that a child is overwhelmed and needs support.
Most teenagers donโt want to die. They want the pain to stop. Support is most effective when it starts early, before things reach a crisis point.
