Building a cornea practice comes with unique challenges. Sustaining quality care takes consistent teamwork, reliable systems and attention to every detail.

Happy to share our article in the Delhi Journal of Ophthalmology, exploring this important, and often under-discussed side of cornea care.

The most expensive—or most “premium” lens is not necessarily the best IOL for you. 👁️

Choosing a lens for cataract surgery is not like climbing an upgrade ladder. Each type offers a different balance between visual range, spectacle independence and possible optical side effects.

Here’s the lens line-up:

🔹 Monofocal IOL
Provides clear vision at one selected distance. Glasses are usually needed for other distances.

🔹 Enhanced monofocal IOL
Offers better intermediate vision than a conventional monofocal, although reading glasses are generally still required.

🔹 EDOF IOL
Extends the range of vision from distance towards intermediate. Near vision may improve, but reading glasses may still be needed.

🔹 Trifocal IOL
Aims to provide vision at distance, intermediate and near, offering greater freedom from glasses. However, some patients may experience halos, glare or reduced contrast—particularly at night.

So, what determines the right choice?

✔️Your cornea and retina
✔️Astigmatism
✔️Occupation and screen use
✔️Night-driving requirements
✔️Willingness to wear glasses
✔️Expectations from surgery
✔️Comfort with possible visual side effects

The goal is not to choose the lens with the most features. It is to choose the lens whose benefits and compromises best match your eyes and your lifestyle.

Swipe through to meet the lens line-up—and save this post before your cataract consultation.

What would matter more to you: greater freedom from glasses or fewer visual disturbances?

Honoured to be a part of another wonderful edition of the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India (IIRSI) Annual Conference – Delhi. The innovative ‘silent conference’ format introduced by the organising team was a remarkable success, enabling more focused engagement and significantly enhancing audience interaction.
