From My OT to ASCO to Publication!

Our *single-surgeon experience of 100 Radical surgeries* for gynecological cancers is now published and recognized internationally.

*Our study: "Predictors of post-operative morbidity and mortality after debulking surgeries for gynecological malignancies"*

*Presented at ASCO Breakthrough 2026* - Abstract #220, Journal of Clinical Oncology [DOI: 10.1200/JCO.2026.44.19_suppl.220]

*Published as Original Article* in Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics [JCRT 2026;22:540-7]

This is *my own 100 operated cases* from NCI, AIIMS New Delhi

Results:
- 42% 30-day morbidity, 0% 90-day mortality
- Predictors we can modify: Surgery >5 hrs, blood loss ≥500ml, hypotension, transfusion
- Most important: High-complexity radical surgery is SAFE when patient is well selected & optimized [OR 0.16 protective]

Moreover single - surgeon data removes variability - shows what structured periop care + careful selection can achieve in Indian Setting.

Every patient story reminds us why precision in diagnosis matters.

Right diagnosis = Right treatment

This is the journey of a 20-year-old patient who presented with a rare condition — growing ovarian teratoma syndrome — even after undergoing prior surgeries and chemotherapy. Such cases can often be confusing, misinterpreted, or delayed in diagnosis.

🎥 Watch her story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSiuNDSVVmA

What made the difference?
👉 Timely recognition
👉 Expert evaluation
👉 Specialized surgical management

As a Gynae Oncologist, the role goes beyond treatment — it is about identifying unusual patterns, understanding rare disease behavior, and planning individualized care.

With the right expertise and multidisciplinary approach, even complex and rare conditions can be managed successfully, giving patients a new lease on life. 💙

Grateful to be part of this journey of healing and trust.

Life has a way of rewriting stories that society once tried to limit.

Honoured to share my journey through this heartfelt feature by Janitri Club—a platform that beautifully captures the 1000-day journey of creating life through the voices of doctors, obstetricians, and parents.

From doubts and barriers to resilience and purpose—this story is not just mine, but of every girl who dared to dream beyond expectations.

💫 If this inspires even one young girl to believe in herself, it’s worth it.

I’m delighted to share that our book chapter titled
“Interactions between ESKAPE Pathogens and the Host Immune System” has been published in an Elsevier book on ESKAPE Pathogens: Virulence, Resistance, and Management.

This chapter explores how some of the most dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria interact with the human immune system and why they are such a major challenge in modern healthcare—especially in critically ill and immunocompromised patients.
🔬 These pathogens are responsible for many difficult-to-treat hospital infections, and understanding them is key to developing better treatment strategies and improving patient outcomes.

Grateful to collaborate with my co-authors in bringing this important topic forward.

🙏 A big thank you to mentors, colleagues, and institutions who continue to inspire and support academic growth.

📢 Spreading awareness, caring for our loved ones ❤️
We often overlook health concerns in our elderly parents, assuming they are a “normal part of aging.”

However, persistent symptoms—even if they seem minor—should never be ignored.

Glad to share my article “Decoding Vulvar Cancer” published in THIP Life Raksha Magazine (July 2026 Issue).

👉 Vulvar cancer is a relatively rare disease, but awareness about it remains low.
👉 It is more commonly seen in elderly women—which means our mothers, grandmothers, and elderly loved ones may be at risk.

In this article, I’ve explained in simple terms:
✔️ Early warning signs (itching, sores, skin changes)
✔️ Role of HPV and other risk factors
✔️ When to consult a doctor
✔️ Preventive measures

💡 Early detection can save lives.

❤️ An important reminder:
👉 Let’s make a conscious effort to:
✔️ Talk openly with our parents about their health
✔️ Encourage regular check-ups
✔️ Take their symptoms seriously and seek timely medical advice

When a fibroid or ovarian cyst is "big" or "complex", it's not just about size.

As a Gynae Oncologist, 2 things matter most in surgery:
1. Ruling out cancer
2. Removing it safely, completely, and without spillage

Large fibroids and complex cysts can sometimes hide cancer. And if a cyst ruptures during surgery, it can spread cells in the abdomen and complicate recovery.

This is where Robotic Surgery + Gynae-Oncology expertise makes all the difference.

Why Robotic?
1. 3D HD vision + wristed instruments: Helps dissect complex cysts stuck to bowel, bladder, and major vessels with precision
2. Intact removal in a bag: Big fibroids and cysts can be removed whole, without spillage, lowering risk of recurrence or spread
3. Cancer-safe approach: We follow oncology principles even for benign cases — careful evaluation, staging, and complete excision
4. Faster recovery: Less pain, less blood loss, 1-2 day hospital stay

For women told "your case is too big for laparoscopy" or "you need an open cut" — robotic surgery often offers a safer, minimally invasive option with cancer-level precision.

Early evaluation is key. If you have heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, or a rapidly growing lump, please get it checked.

🌿 Free Health Camp & Awareness Drive – Chamba, Himachal Pradesh 🌿

Sharing glimpses from a meaningful initiative at Chamba where we conducted a Free Health Camp along with an engaging health talk on prevention of breast and gynaecological cancers.

What made this session special was the active participation of both women and men—because women’s health is not just a women’s issue, it is a family and societal responsibility. 💙

👩‍⚕️ What we focused on:
✔️ Importance of regular health check-ups
✔️ Early signs of breast & cervical cancers
✔️ Simple screening methods that can save lives
✔️ Breaking myths and encouraging open, stigma-free conversations
✔️ Involving men in supporting and understanding women’s health

💡 Key message:
Most women’s cancers are preventable or highly treatable if detected early. Awareness in families—especially support from men—can truly change outcomes.

🙏 Grateful to be part of an initiative that not only spreads awareness but also promotes a gender-neutral approach to health education.

Many women deal with breast pain, lumps, or discomfort from conditions like fibroadenoma or fibrocystic changes. The usual medicines don’t always give long-term relief and can have side effects.

Our latest paper just published in the International Journal of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynaecology looks at a different approach.

What we found:
Natural options like Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin E, and Vitamin B6 can safely help reduce breast pain and support long-term care when used correctly. This was the consensus from a group of gynecologists and breast specialists based on real clinical experience.

Why this helps: It gives doctors and patients more safe choices to manage benign breast problems without immediately jumping to surgery or strong medicines.

If you or someone you know struggles with breast pain or lumps, speak to your gynecologist about all available options. Early evaluation is key.

Proud to be part of this collaborative work with experts across India.

A Story of Strength… and a Lesson for All of Us 💙

Mrs. Gnepa Hinema’s journey is one of courage and resilience. She was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, and while we are grateful that she has been successfully treated, her case reminds us of an important truth—this stage could often be prevented.

Breast cancer, when detected early, is not only highly treatable but often curable with less complex treatment. Unfortunately, many women still reach hospitals at advanced stages due to lack of awareness or delayed screening.

👉 If regular screening had been done, this cancer could have been detected much earlier—making treatment simpler, safer, and less emotionally and physically taxing.

This is a reminder for every woman:
✔️ Start regular breast cancer screening after 40 years of age
✔️ Don’t ignore warning signs like lumps, discharge, or changes in the breast
✔️ Encourage the women around you—mothers, sisters, friends—to get screened
Early detection doesn’t just save lives—it preserves quality of life.

Let’s not wait for symptoms.
Let’s choose awareness.
Let’s choose prevention.
Because timely screening can change the entire story. 🌸
