Ovarian Leiomyoma Masquerading as Broad Ligament Fibroid

In this case report, Dr. Aastha Chauhan et al. detail a rare instance of a primary ovarian leiomyoma in a woman in her mid-30s suffering from dysmenorrhea and infertility.

Initially misdiagnosed via ultrasound as a broad ligament fibroid, laparotomy and histopathology revealed a solid 20 cm mass arising from the left o***y. The diagnosis was confirmed through immunohistochemistry, which showed the mass was Desmin positive.

The report highlights that while ovarian leiomyoma is extremely rare (0.5–1% of ovarian tumors), it should be a key differential diagnosis for solid pelvic masses.

Advanced Abdominal Pregnancy Near Term with Live Foetus in Kenya

In this case report, Dr. Lauryn Mengesa et al. present a rare case of abdominal pregnancy, a form of ectopic pregnancy associated with very high maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality.
A 28-year-old woman at 35 weeks of gestation presented with abdominal distension and mild pain while still perceiving foetal movements. Ultrasound suggested an extrauterine pregnancy, which was confirmed during exploratory laparotomy, where the foetus was found in an intact amniotic sac within the abdomen.

The placenta was attached to the transverse colon, omentum, uterus, and fallopian tube, with significant bleeding managed surgically. Both mother and neonate progressed well postoperatively.

The report highlights that the term abdominal pregnancy is extremely rare and requires a high index of suspicion, with bleeding from placental attachment being a major anticipated complication.

A Case Report of Postpartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM)

In this case report, Dr. Ankita Ahlawat et al. describe a rare case of postpartum cardiomyopathy following emergency caesarean section.

A 22-year-old patient developed chest pain and breathlessness within 6 hours post-surgery, with findings of reduced ejection fraction (35%), mitral regurgitation, and left ventricular hypertrophy. Prompt multidisciplinary management, including inotropic support, led to significant clinical improvement.

The report highlights the importance of early suspicion of PPCM in patients with heart failure symptoms not responding to conventional treatment and the need for intensive, team-based care.
