Five new mothers in Kota, Rajasthan lost complete kidney function after routine C-section deliveries in May 2026. Over 60 days, they have undergone around 32 dialysis sessions. Families allege the women were given contaminated medication during surgery. Hospital authorities say the women's condition has improved and treatment is being provided free of cost.

As mothers are suffering and separated from their newborns, the families have written to President Droupadi Murmu asking for either an immediate kidney transplant or permission for euthanasia. On Thursday, the Rajasthan government signed a written agreement assuring free treatment, priority dialysis and an expedited transplant process. An investigation into the cause is currently underway.

Acute kidney injury after childbirth is rare but documented. Dialysis is currently the only option keeping the women stable while a transplant decision is pending.

A disturbing incident from Telangana has once again highlighted how important food safety is, especially in schools. Around 26 students from a Gurukul school reportedly fell ill after consuming breakfast and had to be hospitalized with symptoms consistent with food poisoning. Thankfully, the students are reported to be stable.

Food poisoning is not just a stomach upset. It can quickly lead to dehydration, weakness, severe vomiting, diarrhoea, and in some cases, serious complications if not addressed on time.

⚠️ Watch out for:

• Nausea and vomiting

• Loose motions

• Stomach cramps

• Fever

• Signs of dehydration

If symptoms are severe or persistent, seek medical attention immediately.

This incident is a reminder that safe food handling, proper storage, hygiene, and regular quality checks are essential, especially when children’s health is involved.

A 10-year-old girl in Raebareli has died days after a tonsil surgery, and the family alleges negligence, claiming she regained consciousness mid-procedure before her condition turned critical. She was put on ventilator support in Lucknow and passed away after seven days. The nursing home has been sealed and an FIR registered, with reports suggesting the doctor's license may be revoked.

Anaesthesia related complications are not always a sign of negligence. Reactions like anaphylaxis to anaesthetic drugs, unexpected airway spasms, or cardiac events under sedation can occur even when every protocol is followed correctly, and they are recognized risks in medical literature globally. A child waking up during surgery can also happen despite correct dosing in rare physiological responses.

What actually happened here can only be established through a proper medical and legal inquiry, not trial by social media. Both possibilities, negligence or a rare complication, need to be investigated before conclusions are drawn.

Russian Instagram influencer Ekaterina Didenko was celebrating her birthday at a pool and sauna complex in Moscow in 2020. To create a dramatic fog effect over the water, her husband Valentin Didenko dumped about 25 kilograms of dry ice into the indoor swimming pool.

Within seconds, guests who were in the pool began losing consciousness. Two people, Natalia Monakova and Yuri Alferov, both 25 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene. Valentin Didenko was rushed to hospital with severe poisoning and later died there. Several other guests suffered chemical burns and carbon dioxide poisoning and were hospitalized.

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. When it comes into contact with water, it releases large volumes of CO2 gas. In an enclosed space, this gas has nowhere to escape and displaces the oxygen in the air. Breathing this air can cause dizziness, confusion, and sudden loss of consciousness, often within seconds.

This is why dry ice fog effects should only be used outdoors or in spaces with strong ventilation, never poured directly into water in an enclosed room or pool, and always handled with gloves, never bare hands.

Comment ‘HealthPil’ to ask health related doubts for FREE!

This is what happens when anger is normalised as discipline. Studies show nearly two out of every three children in India face physical abuse, often from parents or caregivers.

A father, teaching his daughter at home, lost his temper when she struggled to write. He beat her so badly that she lost consciousness and later died. He then told his wife that the child had fallen down the stairs. The truth came out only when the mother saw the bruises and went to the police.
In India, child abuse is far more common than we like to admit.

Government and NGO data show that a large number of children face physical or emotional abuse at home, often from people they trust the most. Most cases are never reported. They are normalised as “discipline”, “strict parenting”, or “for the child’s own good”.

A 4-year-old is still learning how to hold a pencil. Expecting perfection, pushing academic milestones too early, and responding with violence is not education, it is abuse.
We need to talk about and raise awareness on these things:
▪️Parental mental health and anger management
▪️Unrealistic academic pressure on very young children
▪️Normalising asking for help before frustration turns into violence
▪️Teaching that discipline never means physical harm

Parents and caregivers should be counselled on how to discipline children properly, while always keeping the child’s mental and physical well-being in mind. Discipline should never be driven by anger or frustration, and it should never cause fear or harm.
Children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and understood.

The US government exited WHO over concerns about how the WHO handled the Covid pandemic. They have said the organisation failed in its response, was influenced by politics, and did not reform when needed.

The WHO has strongly denied these claims and has said that the US leaving is a loss not just for the organisation, but for global health as a whole.

The US has been one of the WHO’s biggest funders for years. With its exit, funding has stopped, staff have been called back, and several programmes have already been affected. This is not just about money. It is also about how countries share data, track outbreaks, and respond together when a health emergency happens.

The WHO works on many things we rarely notice until something goes wrong. It helps countries control polio and HIV, reduce maternal deaths, set safety standards, and coordinate disease surveillance across borders. During outbreaks, this kind of coordination matters because viruses do not care about national boundaries.

The US has said it will work directly with other countries, NGOs, and groups instead. But for now, it is not very clear how this will replace the global role that the WHO plays.

Health officials in West Bengal are on high alert after reports of deadly Nipah virus infection.

Around 100 people are under quarantine as a precaution. These are individuals who were in close contact with confirmed patients. Monitoring them closely is an important step, because early isolation is one of the most effective ways to stop further spread.

Nipah virus is not new to India, the zoonotic virus is believed to spread from animals, especially fruit bats, and can also pass from one person to another through close contact. Symptoms often begin like a regular viral illness, with fever, headache, and weakness, but in some patients it can quickly progress to serious brain infection and breathing problems.

At present, there is no specific medicine or vaccine that cures Nipah infection. Treatment mainly focuses on supportive care, which means managing symptoms, supporting breathing, and preventing complications. So, early diagnosis, strict infection control, and well-trained healthcare teams are absolutely necessary.

The woman, the married daughter of a retired IAS officer who once served as additional chief secretary to the Gujarat government, died of rabies after a prolonged and ultimately unsuccessful course of treatment. She was associated with a well-known school in Gandhinagar and was widely respected in academic and civil service circles.

In a tragic twist, the infection did not stem from a stray animal but from a pet dog, a Beagle that was reportedly vaccinated. Around four months before her death, she was bitten while playing with the dog, owned by a staff member of the school. As she herself kept a pet at home, the bite was dismissed as routine and no anti-rabies vaccination was taken at the time.
