Brain Cyst: When Is It Dangerous

Living with a Brain Cyst: What You Should Know

Brain Cyst: Do All Cysts Need Surgery?

Dr Bikramjit Singh, MCh Neurosurgeon, Sacred Heart Hospital, Maqsudan, Jalandhar, Punjab

Neuro Spine and General Clinic, Urban Estate, Cool Road, Jalandhar, Punjab

A brain cyst is a fluid-filled sac that can develop in or around the brain. Many brain cysts are present from birth and remain harmless throughout life, causing no symptoms. However, larger cysts or those pressing on nearby brain tissue may lead to headaches, seizures, balance problems, vision changes, or weakness. Diagnosis is usually made with a CT scan or MRI. Treatment depends on the type, size, location, and symptoms—many cysts only require regular monitoring, while symptomatic cysts may need surgical treatment. Early evaluation by a neurosurgeon helps determine the most appropriate management plan.

Ringing in One Ear? Know the Signs of Acoustic Neuroma

Dr Bikramjit Singh, MCh Neurosurgeon, Sacred Heart Hospital, Maqsudan, Jalandhar, Punjab

Neuro Spine and General Clinic, Urban Estate, Cool Road, Jalandhar, Punjab

An acoustic neuroma, also called a vestibular schwannoma, is a slow-growing, non-cancerous tumor that develops on the balance and hearing nerve connecting the inner ear to the brain. Common symptoms include hearing loss in one ear, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), dizziness, and balance problems. If left untreated, larger tumors may press on nearby brain structures and nerves. Early diagnosis with MRI and timely treatment—through observation, microsurgery, or radiosurgery—can help preserve hearing and prevent complications.

Incisional Hernia: When a Surgical Scar Becomes a Problem

Incisional Hernia Surgery: When Is It Needed?

Why Does a Lump Appears After Surgery? Understanding Incisional Hernia

Dr Navneet Kaur, Laparoscopic Surgeon, Professor and Unit Head, PIMS Hospital, Jalandhar, Punjab

An incisional hernia is a bulge that develops through a weakened area of the abdominal wall at the site of a previous surgical incision. It may appear months or even years after surgery and is more common in people with obesity, diabetes, wound infections, or those who perform heavy lifting. Patients typically notice a swelling that becomes more prominent on standing, coughing, or straining and may be associated with discomfort or pain. Treatment usually involves surgical repair, often using a mesh to strengthen the abdominal wall, especially for larger hernias. Early evaluation is important to prevent complications such as incarceration or strangulation of the bowel.

Fatty Liver and Gallbladder Stones: What You need to know

Abdominal Pain? It could be Fatty Liver or Gallbladder Stones

Dr Navneet Kaur, Laparoscopic Surgeon, Professor and Unit Head, PIMS Hospital, Jalandhar, Punjab

Fatty liver is a common condition in which excess fat accumulates in the liver, often due to obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, unhealthy diet, or excessive alcohol intake. If left untreated, it can progress to liver inflammation, scarring, and even cirrhosis. Gallbladder stones are hardened deposits that form in the gallbladder and may cause severe pain in the upper abdomen, nausea, vomiting, or jaundice if they block the bile ducts. Maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and seeking timely medical evaluation can help prevent complications. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential for both conditions.
