SOM was invited by Rishra School of Martial Arts to discuss about Role of Play in the development of Mental Health of Children on 19th August 2018. Around 150 parents, teachers and children were present.
Ms Doyel Ghosh discussed on Various stages of development and play. The discussion revolved around cognitive, emotional, social, moral and obviously physical development as it happens with various kinds of play. She highlighted upon how play plays an important role in accepting failure and learning to be empathetic.
Ms Tanaya Roychowdhury emphasized on importance of hobbies in the development, be it is music or painting or dance. She raised some questions for the parents on what they want from their children, what is the success to them!
Mr. Prasanta Kumar Roy, through an interactive process discussed on how play affects various neurotransmitters of the brain to stimulate happier physical and emotional life. Role of play in the development of brain, attention, executive functions, memory was also discussed.
Other members present were Sanjib Kundu, Kanchan Sengupta, Rashmi Jha and Baishakhi Mukherjee.
There was a question answer session after the discussion where many students came up with lots of questions.
In this 3 hours discussion SOM members could observe the eagerness of the audience to listen and understand the various aspects of mental health.
