Anaphylactic shock is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that requires immediate action. Knowing how to recognize the symptoms and act quickly can save a life.
π¨ Step 1: Recognize the Symptoms
Symptoms can worsen rapidly and often include:
Airway: Swelling of the throat or mouth, severe breathlessness.
Breathing: Wheezing, tight chest, or severe asthma-like symptoms.
Circulation: Dizziness, fast pulse, clammy skin, or collapsing.
β οΈ Step 2: Emergency First Aid
Inject Adrenaline: Use the personβs auto-injector immediately if available.
Call for Help: Call emergency services right away.
Positioning: Lie the person flat. If they have trouble breathing, sit them up.
Remove Triggers: If possible and safe, remove the cause of the allergy.
Repeat If Needed: If symptoms do not improve, a second injection can be given after 5β15 minutes.
π Step 3: CPR & AED (If Unresponsive)
If the person becomes unresponsive and stops breathing normally, begin CPR immediately (30 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths) and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) if available.
