World Autism awareness day- April 2nd
Autism ( Autism spectrum disorder) is a Neuro-developmental disorder characterised by difficulty in social interaction, communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thoughts and behaviour. Globally the prevalence of Autism is increasing to the tune of 1 in 100 children.

Autism awareness day is observed to increase the awareness about autism, to understand that these children are different but unique, to facilitate early diagnosis, early intervention and to provide appropriate support to these children.

The theme of this year is ‘ transition to adulthood’ which is an area where globally we are lacking behind, more so in the developing world. A individualised transition plan is must for these children beginning from teenage years with regards to post school education, vocational training, self care skills, independent living skills, self advocacy, taking care of own health, technology and community participation. This will need immense support from health professionals, therapists, teachers, parents, community, government and voluntary agencies. Hopefully together we can do that..
