The Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr. RMLIMS), Lucknow, successfully organized an Inauguration of Laser Unit and Conference-cum-Workshop on Diabetic Retinopathy on 10th October 2026 with the theme of “OCTA to Laser in Diabetic Retinopathy: Diagnose Sharply, Treat Precisely.”
On this occasion, at OPD block first floor in Ophthalmology Department, an advanced retinal laser machine with added advantage of patterned (PASCAL) laser delivery was inaugurated by esteemed Director Prof. (Dr.) C. M. Singh. The newly inaugurated Pattern Retinal LASER System represents an important advancement in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy and other retinal vascular disorders.
Unlike conventional retinal LASER systems, which generally deliver individual laser spots sequentially, pattern-scanning LASER technology enables the delivery of multiple laser spots in predefined patterns with greater speed, precision and shorter treatment sessions in patients of Diabetic Retinopathy. This technology is expected to improve treatment efficiency and strengthen retinal care services at the institute.
Another important focus of the conference was inauguration of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA), a modern, non-invasive retinal imaging technology that allows detailed visualisation of blood flow in the retinal and choroidal microvasculature without intravenous dye injection.
This initiative marks an important step towards strengthening the department's facilities for the management of retinal diseases, particularly diabetic retinopathy.
Diabetic retinopathy is a serious complication of diabetes and can lead to irreversible vision loss if not diagnosed and treated in time. Laser treatment plays a significant role in the management of this condition. The availability of this facility will help provide timely and appropriate treatment to patients, thereby contributing to better visual outcomes.
The conference aimed to update ophthalmologists on recent advances in retinal imaging, including Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA), and contemporary laser treatment techniques.
The conference cm workshop on Diabetic Retinopathy was organized under the leadership of Dr. Luxmi Singh, Organising Chairperson, and Dr. Alok Ranjan, Organising Secretary, with the blessings of the Institute's administration, faculty members, invited experts, and participants.
