Salamba sirsasana - 'the lord of all Asanas'

This yoga pose is considered to be a master in curing many diseases. Sirsasana is said to be one of the most effective asanas for body and mind. Mastering this asana requires a bit of strength along with concentration and awareness.

It is a great way to bring your body, mind, and soul in a state of equilibrium while simultaneously being a key solution to almost all physiological and mental ailments.

Practicing this yogic exercise increases the pace of blood circulation. The increased speed allows the blood to reach all parts of the body properly, and most importantly the brain which enhances the functioning of the pituitary gland.

When you’re doing the pose, your body undergoes intense stretching and bending which in turn relieves it from any accumulated stress. This helps your body to come out of the lethargic zone and is re-energized.

Happy practising and remember to resist the urge to ‘conquer’ headstand and instead try to approach the pose with a quiet mind, patience and focus, and soon the fruits of this King of Poses will be yours.

Mind over Matter (MOM): the body achieves what the mind believes!

This concept simply means that through the power of the mind and its thought process, we can make our body perform activities that we would otherwise view as extremely difficult or impossible.

The mind in this context refers to our thoughts, beliefs and intentions. Mind over matter therefore means your body having influence over your physical body and environment. Some call it MENTAL STRENGTH and RESILIENCE. Some call it WILLPOWER.

Simply put, mind over matter is putting INTENTION INTO ACTION, and committing to it no matter the adversity.

One of our group members, Bablu Gupta met with an accident four months back. Bablu injured his left ankle and left elbow severly. Though he has fully recovered from his ankle injury, he is stil on the road to recover wrt left elbow fracture.

Given the severity of his injury, he is not advised to put much weight on his left hand. But that didn't stop him from taking care of his body. He has been indulging himself in light exercises I am still not able to put much weight on my left hand. So, given the severity of the injury, I have been doing light exercises like walking, performing yoga.

Surya Namaskar or 'Sun Salutation' is an ancient technique of expressing gratitude to the source of all forms of life on the planet, i.e. the sun.

It has been said by the ancient rishis of India that the different parts of the body are goverened by different devas (divine light). The solar plexus located behind the navel, which is the central point of the human body, also known as the second brain, is said to be connected to the sun.

Benefits : healthy lower and upper body, increases blood circulation, helps in reducing weight around the stomach area, enhances fitness and flexibilty, improves capacity of the lungs, mental and physical balance of the person's body to name a few.
